I don't quite understand how Texas is going to ruin the SEC. I would think Alabama, Georgia, and LSU would have more sway than a team just joining the conference. I honestly think it's bigger than TX and OU. If the rumors are true this likely the SEC getting in front of a huge shift that is coming to college athletics.

That's the other thing too. TCU, Tech, Baylor and their communities are going to be devastated. Their alum are obviously going to fight this.

A 16 team SEC means at least 9 conference games, which means FCS games and their payday to the little guy get dropped. Their alum could get involved too.

Then if this causes the creation of 4 Super conferences, the G5 schools will become even more irrelevant, potentially to the point where the Super 4 split from them and the NCAA entirely. UH, SMU, Rice, UTEP, UTSA, UNT, Texas State could all be devastated by this. Their alum may fight it too.

Most of the current G5 schools are licking their chops. Some may hope to ascend, others are looking to enter stronger configurations with the recently dispossessed, and some (SMU and Rice, e.g.) are just enjoying the schadenfreude.

The Power 5 conferences going to 4 isn't going to engender much sympathetic outrage from the have nots for the new have nots. I also don't see a scenario where the super 4 split from the G5 entirely such that no games can be played between the two because OU and Texas joined the SEC.

If we go to a Super 4, I see no world where commissioners would sign off on a playoff that lets G5 schools in with their conference champs who had to run the gauntlet.

I took his devastation of the G5 due to a complete split from the super 4 to mean that all the schools he listed would no longer get paydays for OOC games which funded their athletic programs.

I agree with you, but I don't think he was referring to all those schools' devastation due to not being in the playoffs.

I am kind of looking forward to it. A&M, tu, OU, LSU, Arkansas, Missouri, Ole MIss, MSU. Sounds like a fun season.

I've accepted it and it cratered my interest in the program

In a few days all the progress of the past 10 years are erased and it's back to bad old days of the B12 where top recruits laugh at our offers and the conference doesn't care if we live or die because their previous media darling is there
