Hearing that Spiller and Richardson have signed agreements to speak for cash is disappointing and seems to push the nil envelope. Paid interviews seems a stretch from a player's likeness being sold on a tee shirt, jersey, poster, or "football card".

I will avoid reading "paid for" interviews. "NIL" is the newest "four letter word" imho. Yeah, I know.

"GreenPrint Real Estate Group presents Texas A&M running back Isaiah Spiller in a conversation with Billy Liucci about his All-SEC 2020 season, the growth he sees in his game and among his teammates, high expectations for the year ahead and much more."

"TexAgs is hosting an NIL event sponsored by GreenPrint Real Estate Group and featuring Texas A&M running back Isaiah Spiller and safety Demani Richardson.
Spiller and Richardson will earn $10,000 each as part of the deal sponsored by GreenPrint for exclusive feature interviews on TexAgs.com ahead of next week's SEC Media Days. The agreement is contracted under the new NIL regulations allowing college athletes to benefit from their name, image, and likeness.
"Our goal is and always has been to bring Aggies the very best in coverage of Texas A&M athletics," said TexAgs Co-owner and Executive Editor Billy Liucci. "For us, that means continuing to find innovative new ways to cover Aggie sports. We're excited about the ways the NIL changes will allow us to feature Texas A&M athletes, continue to push into new areas of content creation for our subscribers, and expand our work with sponsors."
GreenPrint owners Geoff Myers and Randy Hightower explained their interest in the event: "As Aggie business owners, we embrace any opportunity to support local student athletes and the Aggie community as a whole. With the collegiate athletic landscape rapidly changing, GreenPrint is thrilled to partner with TexAgs and these two young men in this exciting new endeavor."

"Thrilled" to have a new way to "legally" pay selected players.

This won't go the way you hope it will, OP.

Sometimes it's a lot better to keep your thoughts and actions to yourself.

I for one think it's fantastic we are at the leading edge of figuring out how to pay our players. Because if we aren't we are going to get left behind pretty quick. Kudos texags

Assume they all are by now. And, who cares. Behind every publication/ interview there is some reporter being paid, why not the person on the other end?

Quit being a *****. This is for the betterment of A&M athletics. If you don't like it start following something else.

TexAgs - Please announce the NIL interviews so that recruits know what to expect!

I'm hopeful the Aggie Network can step it up and get our players to 6 digit incomes (they are probably still worth more).

College athletics has always been a labor market, but instead of paying players, we build and rebuild the Taj Mahal of weight rooms and lockers rooms every 5 years in order to attract recruits. Being able to actually pay players will hopefully cut down on that needless waste.

TexAgs did not pay them. They used TexAgs for the interview. GreenPrint paid $10k to each

Plus it's a win for the players ($). Win for GreenPrint and TexAgs (publicity).

Your one, unsubscribed, click on TexAgs is not going to change the Supreme Court's ruling that payers can get paid for their NIL.

If you cared about A&M football you would be excited for Spiller and Richardson because recruits will see it and want to come here.

Dear diary. Two extremely talented and hard working Aggies who represent our university got paid today. This makes me very angry and I want to make sure I only interact with unpaid help in the future. Can anyone help make this happen?

This is a terrible take. Times have changed. Whether we like it or not, it's gonna happen. We can either use it to our advantage or go back to being mediocre. Get used to it or we will fall behind.

They are no longer restricted by Bylaw 12. You don't even pay for TexAgs. Somehow I am not shocked you want TexAgs to be provided for free.

that's my question.

what was Greenpoint going to do with the $20,000 if NIL had not been approved 2 weeks ago?

It's called a marketing budget. Considering most people, like myself, had never heard of this company before this event I would guess that it was a brilliant move in their part and well worth the investment.

Supreme Court didn't make a ruling on NIL. That was about schools giving athletes extra benefits related to education, like laptops.

Texas and a bunch of other states passed laws that went into effect on July 1st that said players could profit off NIL. The NCAA caved and changed its rules rather than risk being taken to court by all the individual states.

Other than that, I agree the OPs post is a bunch of dumb, moral grandstanding.

I've been reading most of the NIL posts/replies and wondering what the student-athletes supposedly receive in dollar value when they get a scholarship. Per SFAID - Cost of Attendance (tamu.edu), it's $31.5k for fall and spring semesters only. I assume that's bare-bones living (no cell phone or cable/streaming; no going out ever and no eating at off-campus restaurants ever; no buying electronics/clothes or other non-essential things ever). Either that or the cost of education hasn't gone up very much in the last 25 years.

Any parent who has paid wanna weigh in on the actual cost for a kid to attend A&M for fall and spring?

Today, to the shock of many college educated Aggies, we discovered that a couple of our football players are worth more than tuition plus room and board.

Serious question. How do you feel this will affect team chemistry? Are players going to get jealous of each other. I know there is already a hierarchy on every team and I know A Smith came out and said he would share. I don't mind players getting these deals if it is allowed. If more playing time/exposure means a better chance of getting an NIL deal, I can see issues arising for current players and recruits. I think having a strong coach like Jimbo is now even more important.

How does it affect NFL player chemistry when they are all making different salaries and have differing amounts of endorsements?

In fall 1994 I remember the total was around $11-12k. Tuition was hardly anything back then, maybe $2-3k. Non-engineering starting salaries back then were only in like the $30k range, and engineering was only around $40k. Sounds like you paid for a pretty good time or you had a pretty good time, I don't know which.

Meh, Greenprint paid $20K and got national attention. I'm sure an ad on the front page of ESPN costs 10x more. From the businesses side, ultimately the goal is more eyes on the product at the cheapest rate possible. Wonder how that argument would hold up in court.
