That's probably part of it, but there's also the part where the NCAA has no ability to subpoena documents or compel testimony from third parties, so what could they really do? Manziel says he didn't take any money/didn't know the stuff was for sale, and the broker tells them to buzz off. They can't make the broker tell them anything or hand over financial records, so they have no access to any hard evidence that could directly contradict Manziel's statements.

Obviously it's extremely suspicious, but is suspicious enough to take CFB's biggest star out of the game, knowing he's going to continue proclaiming his innocence to everyone and you don't have any real proof that he's lying? Easier to give a slap on the wrist and move on.

E: Oh also every day this was CFB's top story was a day that heat was building on the NCAA over their prohibition on players making money, so they wanted it to go away. You had one of the biggest sports stars in the country, whose games were getting massive ratings as primetime TV spectacles plastered with advertising, whose #2 jerseys were flying off the shelves, tickets to some of his games were going for over $1000 apiece on the secondary market, the school and the coaches and the TV networks raking in millions and millions of dollars, three quarters of a billion dollars on stadium renovation, and not only did he not see a cent of any of that, he's not even entitled to the value of his own name.

Does this mean the Vore Room can declassify and come out of the shadows?

"19.7.11 Statute of Limitations. Allegations included in a notice of allegations shall be limited to possible violations occurring not earlier than four years before the date the notice of inquiry is provided to the institution or the date the institution notifies (or, if earlier, should have notified) the enforcement staff of its inquiries into the matter.


However, the following shall not be subject to the four-year limitation:
(a) Allegations involving violations affecting the eligibility of a current student- athlete.
(b) Allegations in a case in which information is developed to indicate a pattern of willful violations on the part of the institution or individual involved, which began before but continued into the four-year period.
(c) Allegations that indicate a blatant disregard for the Association's fundamental recruiting, extra-benefit, academic or ethical-conduct bylaws or that involve an effort to conceal the occurrence of the violation. In such cases, the enforcement staff shall have a one-year period after the date information concerning the matter becomes available to the NCAA to investigate and submit to the institution a notice of allegations concerning the matter."

With that being said, with all the negative attention the NCAA is getting about not enacting rules enabling NIL profits sooner, this would be terrible timing for them to go after him/A&M.

Not too long ago he said (I am paraphrasing) that he was worried his son wouldn't live to see 24 years old if he continued living the way he did.

As a Hog fan I can assure you that it doesn't matter to anyone other than an Aggie fan. It is not a reflection on Texas A&M. This happened a decade ago. No one else really cares. Manziel was just one of the thousands of former A&M athletes. The vast majority have represented well I'm sure.

A great friend and mentor of mine, the late Charlie Kammerdiener spoke of his love for A&M far into his 80s. Those are the folks that matter.

Darren Rovell deserved what he got because he had a bizarre hardon for exposing Manziel while ignoring that players like Braxton Miller, Marcus Mariota, Mark Ingram, and many others had more autographed crap out there than Manziel did. I also remember most of the discussion on here being more focused on how absurd it is that a college kid can't get paid to sign an autograph if he's famous enough. There were a few idiots here who thought he didn't do it, but not many.

We were attacking Rovell because he had an axe to grind with Johnny and A&M, not because he was reporting on it. If he was reporting on all of the athletes doing it, I wouldn't have had a problem with it. Rovell was specifically going after Johnny while ignoring all the others. Clowney had a TON of stuff out there, and Rovell responded with, "I'm not investigating Clowney and the other cases, I'm investigating Johnny.

F*** Rovell.

Everyone knew it was happening. What people have a massive problem with is the selective reporting by ESPN, and the selective enforcement by the NCAA.

Just saw it in some regular newsfeeds, thanks to Yahoo! (it's still around) Sports. Not sure which is more pathetic: that he's still peddling these stories about his glory day, or that anyone considers it news.

How could he be so good at football and so terrible as a human being? I really hope we as a university completely alienate Johnny at this point. He's operates far beyond the Aggie honor code and brings discredit to the athletic department and school.
