2:02 880 yards as 16 year old in 1976. Not sure what that is in meters, like 2:04 maybe. 52:05 quarter, 4.6 40. I'll have faster times in 5 more years..., isn't that how it works?

Well good news for you! 880yds is 804.672 meters, so you ran a 2:01 800, not a 204.

Does this change Jimbos stance on returning kicks?

Have to respect two-sport athletes that work as hard as Devon does. Bringing times down in a sprint means accepting coaching and executing on training. I've heard upper body strength is extremely valuable for the pumping of arms for more burst especially off the blocks. And similarly there is an emphasis on training fast twitch muscle responses. All this and running efficiently can spillover into football. But regardless it demonstrates Achane's willingness to work hard to represent Texas A&M!

Just read on numbers that 21 out of 32 first rounders this year ran track in high school and 27 of 32 played two sports in high school.

I have two thoughts:

1. Doing that at the intercollegiate level is even more amazing today.

2. I think a national-class track program is a pure athlete magnet. Jimbo is very supportive of two-sport athletes, too!!!

Post your Texags 100m best times : )

I unfortunately never ran 100m as things where still yards when I was a kid.

I was so slow coach used a sundial to clock my 100.

I was so slow my coach used to tell me I couldn't run out of sight in the middle of the night.

My coach always said he needed a calendar to time me.

I made the mistake of running wind sprints for football with the skill position players one day. . .

Ryan Swope had a 100m time around 10.7, and never though looked slow on the field.

So this Achane kinda fast.

He ran a high 4.3 or low 4.4 forty in the combine though. His top end might not have been super fast, but he was extremely fast and strong on the field, one of the better all-around athletes we've had since I started watching football.

Swope was deceivingly fast. I never saw him get caught from behind and often he out ran SEC secondary defenders.

Ahhhh, thanks, I had it backwards. I just got faster and was even trying!

I thought that he had the potential to be an impact player at the next level.

The only reason why his speed was deceiving was that he was white.

I was so slow in high school, I had to speed up to stop.

Same. He had everything you want in a receiver other than size. Fast, strong, good route runner, great and willing blocker, great hands, good awareness.

I looked up his combine results, by the way. 4.34 forty.

5.5 50 yds, 10.00 100 yards, 48.7 440, 1:55.2 880.

Relays: Mile. 2:18.2 ; 4X110 42.1 : State meet places but no first. We won all at regionals.
If your mile relay team ran 2:18.2, you still hold the world record and it will never be broken.

880 yard dash to 800 meter dash conversion is 0.6 seconds, not 2 or 3 seconds. I ran the 880, yep, brutal race but made my leg on the mile relay (4x440 yds) a walk in the park.

Back in the day, the state meet was loaded with star football recruits, it was a must see for sports fans.

"The sprinter in the open field...."

And he was always carrying a lunchpail with him, which you'd think would slow him down.

Harvey Williams and Thurman Thomas didn't make the finals of their district 100 yd. dash as hs seniors. So don't worry about the 100. It's how fast you play the game.

Ran a 4.8.

I actually tried out for the 12th man with a buddy. We were practicing and both running in the 4.7-4.8 range.

The tryout day- I run a 4.8 but he pulls off a 4.5 or 4.6 and makes the team.

Shortly thereafter, i go to watch the game vs utah with alot of the players who weren't on the travel squad. That was a pretty miserable watch party

For reference, Auburns Anthony Schwartz, who has been considered the "fastest guy in college football" for the last few seasons, has a best posted 100m time of 10.07.
