I like your optimism, but I am expecting a 10-2 season with loses to Alabama on 10/9 and at LSU on 11/27. Our floor is 9-3, and our ceiling is 11-1. The season finale at Baton Rouge will probably decide 2nd place in the SEC West and potentially a NY6 bowl appearance.

Bama, ok.
Why do you think we lose to LSU?

Vegas has us at 7th most likely team. That's pretty good odds.

If you think a 4% chance of winning a title is good, then yes.

Vegas is basically saying there are 5 teams with a viable chance. There are another 14 with an outside chance. We are number 2 in that pack of 14.

I'll bite:

1) Last year was an expected down year for LSU, that then had most of the offseason cancelled so their new coordinators had no time to spend installing their systems. This year they will have a new DC, but likely a full off-season.

2) Last year, they lost about a quarter of their team to opt-outs and injury before the first snap. This year they should return most of the individuals that played last year.

3) LSU has out-recruited us every year in recent memory except for a virtual tie in 2019.

4) It will be an away game for us this year.

Not a guaranteed loss, certainly, but I wouldn't be surprised if we are the underdogs for this one.

New Qb and OL will make it difficult in this league.
This is why I'd tap the brakes. We'll learn the hard way next year what a senior QB means to a team.

Not so anymore. The difference in the last 3 recruiting cycles is insignificant. We're recruiting the elite alongside LSU.

We were ranked 11th (861.96) in team composite talent in 2020 and LSU (873.66) was ranked 6th. We are closer to LSU talentwise than we are to #14 Auburn (844.98).

So LSU is not a lot more talented than us. To take it a it a little further they had 7 5 stars to our 3. But they had 34 4 stars to our 38.

Alot could change between now and then, but figure they have the edge if it doesn't:

-They will be at home
-Probably be at night (Auburn/Bama always makes game of the week)
-They have slightly better talent
-They get Brenna back, and the southpaw is good too
-50/50 O is coaching for his job that night

The other thing is, LSU has kind of a drop of that old Miami Hurricane mentality. When their pride is on the line, they tend to show up. They showed up against Florida. Alot of people thought OM would beat them, but didn't. They just seem to play well when down.

We will play at Baton Rouge on 11/27, and it is still a tough place to win at. Other than Alabama, LSU rarely loses there. Mississippi State has had two wins in Baton Rouge in 2014 and 2020, but Auburn has lost their last 10 trips there. I think we might be able to steal a road win in Baton Rouge, but I won't be surprised if we are underdogs there the week before the game.

New QB, 4 new starting o-linemen, 2 big time players on defense needing to be be replaced. I like your optimism, but no way it happens this year.
Agree on the offense.

2021 defense is going to be even better than it was this past season.

This. The narrative that there is some major talent gap between us and LSU needs to stop. It's not the case anymore

It's damn frustrating that LSU can be coached by a mascot and they still have so much talent they are a contender for the playoff.
