2021 DeSoto DE Shemar Turner commits to Texas A&M

If you want to play big boy football in the SEC, strength, size, and athleticism are must-haves in the trenches, and Jimbo Fisher and the Aggies added all of that to the 2021 class as DeSoto (TX) defensive end Shemar Turner‍ announced his college decision.

At 6-4, 275-pounds, Turner is a twitchy athlete on the edge with the size, power and explosion to disrupt things in the middle of the line. He has played everywhere up and down the line for DeSoto, and he is a constant playmaking threat for opponents.

Texas A&M extended an offer to Turner following a standout performance at a June 2019 summer camp before Turner’s junior season. It was clear from the start the Aggies were high on his list.

“Top 3 most definitely,” Turner said after receiving his offer.

During the camp, defensive end coach Terry Price made a strong impression with his coaching style and personality. Price has been Texas A&M’s point person throughout the process, and his relationship with Turner and his family has been a major plus from start to finish.

“Coach Price and my uncle talk all the time,” Turner said. “Me and Coach Price talk a lot. Really, we’ve built a good relationship, and I feel Coach Price is really good at that because of what he does for his players. He does those BBQs and stuff like that. I feel like they’re really big on the relationship thing over there. That’s the first thing I think about when I think about A&M.”

In addition to coach Price and the Texas A&M coaching staff, Texas A&M’s history with DeSoto standouts such as Von Miller, Tony Jerod-Eddie, and Cyrus Gray also made an impression, as did the lure of the SEC and the Aggie Network.

Turner received offers from across the country during his process, but in the end, he chose the Aggies over fellow finalists Georgia, Alabama, LSU, and Texas.

He becomes the 19th commitment of Texas A&M’s 2021 recruiting class, and he joins a defensive line class that includes Marcus Burris‍, Jahzion Harris‍, and Albert Regis‍.

As a senior, he was selected as an Under Armour All-American, and he is currently ranked No. 2 in the TexAgs Texas Top 100.
