Not sure this is brag worthy but my kid did not get into A&M.... but he is a huge Aggie. So he decided to attend NMMI in the fall with the hopes that with the discipline they provide and some hard work he will get into A&M. at some point. The bonus news is that the coaches got his film and he has be invited to walk onto the juco football team (same division as Blinn, Navarro...you get it). I know it's not really A&M related or A&M football related but it's really cool and of course my dream would be that he would get into Texas A&M and be the first second generational Aggie in the family. I am 98 and wife is 00. My bigger dream would be that he would do well in football, gain some weight and take a shot at walking on when he gets to Aggieland. Even if he got to be a part of the team it could be awesome. Anyway, I hope I did not waste your time but I was pretty excited. Fire away if you must.

Excellent all around. If you were to emphasize that the competition at the P5 level both academically and athletically means he will need to be aware not just who is best on his team or his classes, but how he masters each class as a foundation for the next, moving from there to Texas A&M could be very achievable.

The desire to fully master material is the secret. Merely doing well is a trap.

Very brag worthy. Congratulations! Most kids are brats. Best of luck to you and your son. Also, donuts have worked wonders in putting weight on for me.

When you said you were '98' I immediately thought, "dang, he's old!" Truth be known, I'm old and it took me awhile to figure that was your class year!

For me, a son attending NMMI would make me a very proud Papa.

By the way, congrats and well done Dad.

Congratulations! No need to apologize for supporting your children and celebrating positive events. And you never stop being a dad. Hoping all the best for your son and family. You and your wife should be proud. Likewise, he should be proud of having parents that care.

It would also mean he had a kid at 80!

I was hoping to take a trip out there with a son this summer but it sounds like NM is restricting out of state visitors. It's an impressive place though isn't it?

That would be my dream as a father to have them A) make it to Aggieland and B) make the football team. But I wonder if it's healthy or in my son's best interest for me to put such high expectations on him, especially since I'm unmarried and he hasn't been born, let alone conceived yet.

I did not know this. Great bit of trivia.

Anyways, congrats to the OP. Always brag on your kids and support them.

They also are one of the few schools authorized for early commissioning officers in just 2 years.

The service academies stash kids who need a semester or year to get their grades just right at NMMI. That was the case with Staubach.

Jordan T'aamu who played QB at Ole Miss recently played juco there.

I went to NMMI before A&M. Much different experience between the Corps life. But an excellent academic school. It is a long ways out there.

Congrats. Hope he enjoys his experience there.

This is good bull! My son didn't get into A&M his freshman year so he went to Blinn in Bryan just to stay close. He's always been an athlete but our high school didn't have football so he played Basketball in jr high/high school. His plan was to keep working out and get into A&M then walk on. During his freshman year, he realized that he had made A&M an "idol" (I probably contributed to that) and made the tough decision to look elsewhere. He went to visit ETBU up in Marshall, TX and told the coaches he wanted to play football. (Hadn't played since 6th grade.) He put in tons of work last year to prove to the coaches he's committed. He's now 6'5" and 255# starting tight end for them. He's never been happier. A&M isn't the same place it was when I was there (class of '90) and that makes me sad, but I still love everything about it. Would have loved seeing my son run out of the tunnel at Kyle, but I'm the proudest ETBU Tiger dad you ever saw!
