let me help out this thread...
toughness in a QB usually involves a QB taking a beating by either running the ball a lot or getting hammered by the opposing pass rush. (i.e. taking a physical pounding and still making plays)
McGee is definitely in the top 3. The OU & t.u. defenses he played against were loaded with NFL talent and he took a pounding in the running game and the passing game. Remember the 07 game in Lincoln were he carried the ball a whopping 35 times.
Bucky also rushed the ball a ton. Scored 30 career rushing TD's, so you know he took many hits. And of course he missed the 1989 season due to injury.
strangely enough...I don't remember Johnny taking that many hard hits because he was so elusive, so quick. He also usually had great pass protection.
I would probably have Randy McCown round out the top 3. The Big 12 was a great defensive league in the late 90's. And he also ran the ball quite a bit and the A&M o-line was shaky at times.
and if we want to go back to the Bellard era wishbone...David Walker should be in the mix too. Had over 400 career carries...and almost all of them on astroturf

Agree. Mond is plenty tough and not afraid to run at all. He has made a few runs that ended in some untimely fumbles that I recall however.

Often that has been his own fault.McDadeTXAggie said:
I don't know where Mond is on the list but he's played against a bunch of NFL talent and has lead the conference in being sacked.

He is a good kid. But as a QB, he has a slow release, is slow to work through his progressions and can't read the rush. Those factors enter into many of his sacks, can't blame anyone else for those weaknesses. And you are right, he is doing all he can with the tools he possesses.McDadeTXAggie said:samhoustonag said:Often that has been his own fault.McDadeTXAggie said:

When you're down by 1 or 2 scores and it's a must that you pass/score it's not necessarily his fault. A sub par oline and WRs not getting distance on DBs makes for a painful 3rd and 4th quarter for a QB.
Give the guy some slack. He's doing everything he can with what's given to him.
