I though Phillips was a grey shirt no matter what. 2 spots open as of now with 2 of Evans, Jackson, or Shepherd filling those spots.

If Evans becomes more trouble than he's worth, just kick his ass off the team. It's well worth the risk for this type of generational talent.

It's not that, it's that many posters have this stupid mentality that we should only recruit players who have led perfect lives and that we should somehow not only have the team with the most upstanding moral character, but the team with the most talent - because Texas Aggies.

Meanwhile, we are smack dab in the bulls eye of a middle of the pack 7-5, 8-4 program, while almost all of our neighbors have seen far more success - both historically and recently. But hey, we have altar boys on our team and we are morally superior than those super talented teams that beat us 50-7 (after letting off the gas for the entire 2nd half). Dont' get me wrong - the folks that want these fine upstanding eagle scout only scholarship players also generally are the ones that scream the loudest and longest about mediocrity too.

I figure a coach that gets $7.5mm per year can handle a few egos and personalities - and win with the talent they bring. If he can't, what his the point of paying that much to begin with? Saban can do it. Swinney can do it. Hell, Orgeron can do it.

I am confusion.

Evans is an amazing talent, and it'd be great to have him at A&M But I don't know how a head coach reserves a spot for him until August, hoping Evans will show up based on a verbal commitment from Evans. This is one of those scenarios that you just have to trust Jimbo's judgment.

In the broader picture, if the National Letters of Intent don't really bind a school and an athlete, and more athletes break their LOI's, this could turn recruiting into a huge fiasco...what a mess.

Why did he bother signing with uga if he really just wanted to come here the whole time?

There's another thread on here discussing the most frustrating recruitments in recent memory - guys like Dickerson, Jefferson and Mack are mentioned, because those recruitments were brutal.

One thing most of those frustrating and insane recruitments had in common is that once the player was on campus, they didn't really cause any problems. I don't ever remember hearing about any of these guys in a negative sense, at least from the perspective of being a problem in the room or with the coaches.

Of course some guys are the exceptions, like Kyler, but that seems to have been as much about his head coach and his dad as him.

In this case, as crazy as things have been and will continue to be, you give Evans a shot if he wants to come here.

The coaching staff will have to judge the probability of helping this young man mature.

Risk/reward.

There are legitimate scouts comparing Evans to Adrian Peterson. If he wants to come play for us, unless he's a convicted criminal, you have to assume the risk. High risk/ High Reward

Yes The Aggies need him. It's a spot of need. This team lacks talent. And needs to keep adding.

He's just one player on a team of 100+ guys.

The issue is we have 2 ships left with very good shots at Shep and Jackson. I'd definitely take Jackson over Evans at this point but think Evans is a bigger need than Shep.
