He will have a great career and I wish him well. Our RB recruiting and depth is a little concerning at this point. It's hard to hold out much hope that we will get Evans.

If we dont get Evans do we have any other options at RB either HS , grad transfer or Juco route?

Heard from a source yesterday morning (who talked to EJ Smith) that EJ was leaning towards the Ags, but felt sort of unwanted. He was reading endlessly on the internet and social media about Aggies preferring Zach Evans. Next thing you know, Stanford seems to take over the drivers seat for EJ yesterday afternoon. You can see where the kid is coming from. Probably felt like he was just plan B.

Don't get me wrong, Zach is an incredible talent, but I think people really underestimated EJ, and simply judged these guys based on 247 star ratings. Anyone who has watched EJs film knows that he was a high priority recruit for a reason. The guy has elite balance and vision.

This is why social media mixed with recruiting can be such a problem. A few people out there can't keep their dang mouths shut, and can't resist commenting negative things on the internet. This is where it gets us. Losing recruits to a school that just went 4-8 and had an empty football stadium all season. Just my take based on some of the things I've heard.

I hear what you're saying, but it's not like Stanford just came out of nowhere. They've been recruiting Smith for a long time. If he took the opinions on social media more important than what the coaches were telling him, then that's just immature. Now if the COACHES made him feel like plan B, then I understand, but these kids need to understand it doesn't mean a damn thing what anyone on social media says.

I'm a college student. I know how social media works. Social media has an effect on high school kids. Anyone who thinks it doesn't is flat out wrong.

Exactly, it's a convenient copout to rationalize decisions.

And ffs, can't wait till this day is over so 'McDadeAg' is done bleeding and/or slobbering over EVERY G'Dam thread related to our rb situation (ie, quote "Evans isn't coming here!").

You are telling some of the most negative fans in our fanbase that negativity had consequences with a kids recruiting. Don't expect a positive response.

On Roster (Not in transfer portal)
  • Isaiah Spiller (So)
  • Richardson (Jr.)
Committed/signed to A&M
  • Devon Achane (S) (Fr.)
  • Deondre Jackson (Fr.)
In transfer Portal (no destination yet)
  • Corbin (RS So.)
  • Deneric Prince (RS So.)

If I recall players in the portal can still stay so we might keep Corbin but more than likely he is gone, but yeah we have a clear need for a Running back hopefully we can get Evans as he can probably get significant carries day one but we might convert a player to running back too.

If Evans is giving you a legit shot, then everyone else is a 2nd option. Sorry but Evans is the best RB in the class and thats just the way it is. It's not to say that anyone else (Smith) isn't an excellent RB

Evans is suppose to be Adrian Peterson good

Those are facts...He was heavy leaning towards Ags but these forums helped his decision plus his relationship with players on Ags team...IMO he was better option than others but STANFORD getting a ball player

No disrespect to anyone or thier sources, but if you are a highly touted recruit who is being molded and somewhat guided by a HoF father, I'm pretty doubtful of random social media fans highly impacting your decision to the point where you'd give up on the school of your choice.

I think we have to be honest with ourselves that no matter how outstanding the Aggie network is and the bright possibilities on the horizon for Aggie football, Stanford has more global recognition or prestige from an academic standpoint. EJ specifically cited academics as weighing in on his decision. It's a miss for A&M but it's great for him and his family. Wish him the best.

Why wouldnt you want to play for Stanford? Play in a major football conference, good coach and top notch degree that will get you a job anywhere if football doesnt pan out.

I tend to agree that social media could have had an impact on his decision. It seems that all the talk among Aggies is towards wanting Zach Evans with very little love for EJ Smith. As a human being how can a kid not feel some disrespect if hears all that chatter. Bottomline is no one knows who will end up being better among these two great RB recruits.

Not that A&M would be a cakewalk academically speaking but for someone that went to Shelton (school for kids with learning disabilities) it just seems like a strange decision to choose a place as hard as Stanford over the other four schools that are in much better positions currently from a football standpoint.

Good for him though. Disappointed but hope he succeeds both athletically and academically.

Great choice regardless how you look at it. Clearly he has the academic ability to receive a high class degree from Stanford and the athletic ability to obtain it free of charge. Would have loved to see him in maroon and white but happy for EJ and excited to follow him.

Why would Evans want to come here with a pitiful OL when he could go anywhere in the country?
That is such a terrible take. As if the OL is going to continue to be that bad every year Evans is here, wow. Our OL recruiting these last 2 classes has trended up big time, which are the guys that will be actually blocking for Evans for most of his career here, should he choose A&M.

1) The OL isn't pitiful. It wasn't good but you have to expect it improves

2) UGA was supposed to have the biggest and baddast OL in the country this year and they get 5 star RB's seemingly every year....and their OL sucked due to injuries and lack of chemistry. It happens.

Exactly. Because "anywhere in the country" are all going to have better offensive lines, NEXT YEAR, compared to our offensive line from THIS YEAR. Teams don't change, improve or regress. Anyone that follows sports knows this hard scientific fact.
