The coach who rode a good season or two and parlayed it into a run at a big time program, only to be discovered for the fraud he is.

Todd Graham?
Butch Jones?

Aggie football related because Dennis Franchione will forever hold the title for me.

It has got to be Charlie Weiss.

Think that dude is still drawing a paycheck from Kansas.

Fran and Sumlin are definitely in the conversation.

Weiss and Fran probably share that title.

Don't know that I necessarily agree with this. He went to a title game with less than stellar recruiting classes. And had a few other seasons where he only lost 1 or 2 games. His teams were always in the hunt.

Now, he could've lost his edge or something after his failed NFL attempt, but he used to be a good coach.

Weis simply has to be the pick here, no doubt about it! That dude got paid handsomely not to coach Notre Dame and Kansas. He totally hustled both schools.

UCLA probably wants their money back.

I didn't even think of Charlie Weis. The trophy for this category should probably be named after him.

I'm going to put WIllie Taggart and Scott Frost on that list. Both of those guys could seriously set their current programs back by 10 years.

Shouldn't Mike Price also be in this conversation?

But if you take the term "shyster" seriously (as in questionable faith of action), then, yeah, Fran, with CoachFran.com and his newsletter, has to at least be top 3 of all time.

Bobby Petrino, definitely in the running for the biggest scumbag, but look at his current Louisville stint lose a generational talent in Lamar Jackson and immediately start to suck.

As far as being disliked by his players, coaches, secretaries, and the people who knew him well it's easily Todd Graham. Second is probably Lou Holtz.

I think you have to go beyond just being a bad head coach and add some sleaze, fraud, or huckesterism. A lot of the leading candidates here got mentioned. I think Charlie Weiss and his decided schematic advantage is more of a blowhard. Fran's newsletter takes him into rare air. George O'Leary and his resume lying is a pretty solid choice. How about:

Tommy Tubberville: TT got a long way with his church of Christ image and folksy homespun assurances. He was not a bad coach at Ole Miss, but remember his "pine box" statement and then lightning departure to Auburn? On the Plains he does good job, but Auburn goes full Auburn after a losing season and he packs his bags for Tech. In Lubbock, he proceeds to run what had been a pretty decent Big XII program straight into the ground. Tech is still happy to give him some more time, but he actually leaves two recruits in the middle of dinner and disappears to Cincinnati, a place he also left worse off than when he found it. Also, he was sued for managing a hedge fund that defrauded investors. His co-defendant was found guilty and he settled for an undisclosed amount.

Scott Frost gets a couple years pass. Nebraska made a head-scratching move by hiring Mike Riley and he left a smoldering crater in Lincoln.

And yet managed to beat us. I still remember him saying "we just kicked their ass" after winning the game on a 2pt conversation in OT.

If you are putting Scott Frost, you should probably put Mike Reilly over him. He left nothing behind for Frost and completely reverted from what Bo Pelini was doing in Nebraska.

I would say Mike Riley was the one who set the program back 10-20 years. That guys along with Weis wins it for me
