Sorry guys but there is nothing racist about the comments. I don't think Fisher would like that look even if the Grinch was the previous coach. Everyone is looking to be offended these days.

And yet pretty much everyone (including a number of folks on this thread) was all for all of Sumlin's actions. Anyone who questioned it was ridiculed as being old, out of touch with today's youth and athletes, etc.

Do Meyer and Saban play rap and practice and have a mirror ball hanging from their office ceiling? My bet is those guys care about their players obviously but are not considered "players coaches".

According to the story, Sumlin's old office had dark carpet and black walls, which doesn't seem to be a vibe Fisher enjoys.

LOL
Maybe it was for laser tag and they actually played dub step. Let's not assume.

No big deal. Jimbo's style and approach resonate much better with me than Sumlin's, but in all honesty I was okay with Sumlin's approach if it got us the right talent. Results are what matters. Sumlin's came up short. Jimbo's haven't come up yet.

The problem is you cannot be a fun lovin' chill dude when you recruit and be a fire breathing hard task master when it comes to practice. Makes players go wtf. That is where he failed. Even if he was a taskmaster, it would be Bait and switch so he preferred to be popular instead.

This. I was pleased by a lot of what Sumlin did for the program, especially early on (and so were most on this board). He (with a little help from Johnny) brought a new level of attention to the program. Did he mishandle several situations, make lackluster hires, and underperform? Yes, that's why he is gone. I'm grateful for what he did while he was here though.

Sumlin is not a good coach, and we paid him big bucks for him to preach about championships just like chavis preached. It's amazing what money makes people say and how far bull****ting will take you.

Agreed. I think Sumlin's mistake was that he needed coordinators who were going to be hardasses if he was going to be the "players" guy. Yeah listen to them voice their concerns if they think its unfair, but at the end of the day it has to be clear that someone in the chain of command has the necessary support to instill discipline. That's part of where Chief went wrong, he wanted to run tougher practices and was held back.

Good call by Jimbo to make the changes he has. Like many have stated this should be a professional culture, where athletes can focus on those items that truly make a difference for themselves, their team and the ones who pay the bills.

I am 100% behind his methods and process. I hope some other coaches learn. For those who say well wait and see. My answer to those is that it works. Jimbo will be successful.

Is it racist or are contemporary whiteboys so afraid of being perceived as racist that just the mention of anything affiliated with the the black community makes them terrified?

EVERY subset of EVERY race has NEVER known MORE prosperity, nor LESS persecution than in this point in history.

People have NEVER had it better.

And yet the whining...

The sudden whining on this board on this thread is pathetic.

Sumlin was perceived as soft for years.

A lot of people don't like rap music. If you're winning, they tolerate it. If you're losing, it becomes a problem. People would complain about other types of music too in those cases.

Pimp cane winning? Cool. Pimp cane losing? Extremely uncool.

Sumlin was all about catering to the nonsense that recruits like.

Jimbo is all about projecting the values that will make recruits successful.

If you want to rap and have fun in the short run, you sign with Sumlin.

If you want to work and develop values for the long run, you sign with Jimbo.
This sounds vaguely familiar to what was coming out of sips mouths a few years ago when Strong replaced Brown.
Really? I would label both Strong and Herman more "players" coaches same as Sumlin. Jimbo is not.

Herman wears a grill, makes hand gestures at opposing players, carries a bat, and throws pool parties. Jimbo wouldn't do any of that.
Not sure what Herman has to do with my comment. I'm talking about when Brown was let go and Strong came in, everyone was gung-ho on Strong because he was coming in and throwing out the entitled, pool party culture of the previous regime, instilling core-values and toughness into his team. Then he averaged six games a year.

Point is, these big "culture changes" are always over-hyped by fans. The old guy did it wrong and the new guy is doing it right, even though we have zero results to show for it yet. But I guess as long as it keeps the BAS away I'm fine with it.
