Where does Sumlin rank in Aggie History?

First African American coach at a Texas flagship university. I think given his performance in the first campaign with Manziel he did perfectly that year. The rest without Kingsbury were disappointing.

Stop looking at overall statistics you morons. Figure out which seasons mattered and what the coaches did in those years. Arguably the change in style mattered in 2012 as much as the change in offense.

That Ags fussed about the culture change while winning tells us something. I'm not sure what but something. That first season was golden.

That first season was all Johnny, though with the teams we played we could have slept walked to 9-3. Arky, auburn, and mizzou had historically bad years. Clanga was a paper tiger with a back loaded schedule, and ole piss was not exactly great. We tried to give that game away and still won.

False. Yes Johnny was critical.

Arkie was 4-8
Ole miss was 6-6 (only "good" win was clanga)
Auburn was 3-9
Clanga was 8-4, but didn't beat a team with a winning record aside from Middle Tennessee State.
Mizzou was 5-7

With our OOC schedule, that's 8-9 easy wins. We only beat 3 D1 teams who finished the regular season with winning records, and one was LaTech.

The Bama win was their only loss. The Oklahoma win was memorable, too.

There are good coaches.

And there are bad coaches.

Then there's 50 feet of crap.

And then there's Fran.

And? What part of that makes, "We could have slept walked to 9 wins," false?

Without Sumlin = no JFF, no Heisman, no, we beat Bama, no 400 Million Kyle Stadium redo, no recruiting uptick
(whether they finished at aTm or not) no QB controversy, no UCLA meltdown, and thusly - no Jimbo.

Oh come on. Might be the most impressive win for Texas A&M ever other than 1939. Sumlin did that whether you like it or not. Give the man his due.

Sumlin with Sherman recruits > Jimbo with Sumlin recruits

I'm having a hard time deciding if to can't read, can't do math, or both...

We finished the regular season 10-2 in 2012, and 9 of those wins were gimmes that we probably win regardless of who is at the helm. Winning or losing at Alabama had no bearing on that, so I don't know why you're hung up on it.

As for the above comment though... Sumlin deserves 0 credit. He doesn't even come close to beating Alabama without Johnny. Every game after that is proof. He had nothing to do with it.

You're still wrong. You are ignoring one game that proves all the rest of your claims false. Without the Bama (and OU further buttresses) your points have some substance. But that win and being within a score against Florida and LSU invalidates every number-based argument.

It wouldn't have happened with Sherman. It did happen a year later with Sumlin. Sumlin deserves credit and it could be argued it's the most impactful year in Texas A&M history other than the 1939 mNC.

He's top 5 in our history but that says more about our history than Sumlin.

Put the crack pipe down.... no one and I mean no one is worse than Frannie.

Example: down by 4 with 3:28 min left in the 4th quarter. And Fran kicks a field goal. Not only was he a terrible coach, but apparently, he also sucks at math.

Greg's schtick is long-winded, stream-of-consciousness, circular, wordy, etc posts that argue undefinable "ideas". Just ignore him

My point was clear. Sumlin deserves credit for the first season as arguably the second best in Aggie history. Sherman cane up lane. The combination of Sumlin and Kingsbury picked Johnny. We lost two games any two scores and tagged the eventual mNC with their only loss.

Not sure what's complicated about that. It's impossible to deny it.
