I was on the stark train in UCLA. I think we have a good shot at winning out with him. But Mond has gotten better and has momentum. It's his team now

Who knows, but this is Mond's team until he struggles mightily.

He is getting better every game. Unless he dumps a pile on the field somewhere, he is your starter.

Starkel is a single threat qb and that one threat is a handoff

My worthless recollection of the medical redshirt...

A medical redshirt only grants you a 5th year of eligibility. After getting one there is no reason to take a normal redshirt year and I am not sure if you even can.

If you already had a redshirt year then the medical redshirt year is worthless, unless....

You have the misfortune of missing another season due to injury and get a 2nd medical redshirt year. This is extremely rare unless you play for OU.

A 2nd medical redshirt season will grant you a 6th year of eligibility.

I think OUs players took a normal redshirt year and then had 2 seasons where they got a medical redshirt. That is why they were able to play for 6 years.

I am not sure if a medical redshirt applies if you sit out half of the year due to injury and the other half due to coaches sitting you on the bench. If you can play but don't then it doesn't seem like a medical redshirt should apply.

I don't understand this concept where a team can only have one game ready QB at a time. Teams need multiple guys that can come in and play QB. Otherwise they are at the mercy of keeping their QB healthy. If Starkel doesn't get his starting job back we still need him on the team. We need him (or any backup QB) to help out in practices, come in for mop-up duty and be there in case the starter gets hurt.

i doubt Starkel wants a medical redshirt this season would prefer to get some reps in games
he is probably going to graduate with eligibility remaining and if he is not getting playing time he should do what T knight did and find a new place to play

Love how the "experts" here dismiss Mond's UCLA's performance yet point to Starkel's stats as if there would be no improvement with him.

Although I agree that Mond should start. Not because he is necessarily the better of the two (after all Starkel did win the starting spot before he got hurt), but rather because Mazzone's RPO got Starkel killed. Mond is better suited for the RPO.

The weird thing is, Martell seemed like he would fit Mazzone's RPO perfectly. Yet Mazzone preferred Starkel over Martell.

Starkel is a drop back passer. He should never be running unless the pocket collapses.

Mazzone does a good job of tailoring it to the abilities of the QB. He doesnt set it up for the dual threat guys the same way he sets up for the less mobile Osweiler and Rosen types.

Nick is not nearly as athletic as Kellen or Connor.

Knight, Mond and Blumrick all seem well suited for Mazzone's RPO. Starkel and Hubenak ... not so much.
