Have seen several threads talking about Starkel getting a "medical redshirt." As a redshirt Freshman, that is absolutely not going to happen.
A medical redshirt counts as one of the "five years to play four" -- so if a redshirt has already been taken, he's not going to get (what amounts to) a sixth year of eligibility.
(Rare) exceptions to the "sixth year" include players who lose the majority of a SECOND season to injury, or redshirt Seniors who are injured early in their Senior year. Even these situations require a special hearing, and the waiver isn't guaranteed.
Simply getting injured early in a season does not grant you some magical extra year of eligibility. Starkel won't get a waiver -- he'll be a redshirt Sophomore next year.
