I know A&M has an unreal recruiting base, but fans will want him run out of town FAST if he doesn't come in and win 10-11 games a year.
We deserve more credit. We tolerate more crap than any other big money fanbase besides UCLA and maybe South Carolina.
Sumlin's teams experienced meltdowns in 2014 and 2015. Most big money programs would have fired him.The majority of us wanted him to get a chance in 2016. He got his chance and choked on it. By that point, the majority of us wanted him gone. However, the boosters decided to give him one more year.
I believe I speak for the majority, or at least the plurality that expectations are approximately:
-Go to a bowl every year
-Finish ranked 3/4 years
-Have a big season every 4th year (win the division/ play in a new year's day bowl/ finish top 10)
And, I contend that those expectations are reasonable. LSU and Bama are the only programs in the division with comparable resources and recruiting pool. Auburn is close. Our cross-over opponent is at a disadvantage to us. In the east, Florida, Tennessee, and UGA have comparable situations, but we will only play one of them every other year.
Most big fanbases expect to be ranked every year and expect a big season every other year, no matter how realistic it is.
-Auburn was brutal to Tubberville
-UGA was tough on Mark Richt
-Nebraska fired Pellini b/c he cussed fans out, even though he was winning 9/year in a talent graveyard
-Michigan fired Rich Rod after 3 seasons, even though they went to a bowl in year 3
-Ohio state was brutal to John Cooper
-They fired Earl Bruce for going 6-5, even though he had finished ranked for 7 season prior
-tu was rough to every HC between Royal and Mack Brown
-LSU hated Les Miles for years for not being as good as Saban
-In a few more games, they will start calling for Coach O's head
