And as to my comparison metaphor, people buy a Ferrari because it is, in a word, Ferrari, an orgasim astride 4 Pirelli tires.
Is that a new term for when she's faking it?

And a Toyota is more reliable than any European luxury brand. What's your point?

Citizen Eco-Drive Skyhawk Atomic. Probably the best watch money can buy for under $500.

As for the Rolexes, I can't imagine spending that much on something with a leather band. Would be like going to a nice restaurant and getting served catfish sushi.

I'm going to add watches to my "wine collecting 101" spiel I use at Inwood Estates Winery every weekend.

People spend money on what they want. I spend mine on wine. So to me a $100 bottle of wine is much more than the urine it becomes the next morning. How about $800/month on country club dues, a new $450 driver every year (THIS is gonna the the one!) and 45 bucks worth of lost ProV1s every weekend? How about the $50,000 bass boat and the dualie to pull it?

There's only three things you can do with money, use some, save some, spend some.

That being said, my experience with men wearing Rolexes (and I know/have known dozens) is that it's almost always a "look at me, I'm rich and important" status symbol. I guess my wine collection could be looked at the same, but I don't haul it around with me every day!

Money buys social status, not watches and cars. The instinctual subconscious pecking order that is established by expensive items is why people purchase them.

I wear my Tag because my wife gave it to me for a wedding gift.

She bought a Tag because she knew it would last a lifetime.

I will give each of my sons a Tag when they graduate college for the exact same reason.

HTH.

As is a $200 bottle of wine.

A $450 driver.

Any car over about $35,000.

Any meal over about $20.

Any shotgun over about $400.

Any purse over about $50.

Any shoes over about $75.

Any shirt over about $30.

Any hamburger over $6.

Any football ticket over about $40.

Exactly! What one sees as a waste of money is something another can justify, and things one can justify others see as a waste of money.

If one perceives they need a very expensive device to tell time...go for it.

Yup, just like if one perceives that they need to spend thousands of dollars per year to watch a bunch of tattooed old boys/young men that care nothing about you play a game with other tattooed young men who care even less about you... go for it.

These are the kinds of threads that really bring out the libertarian in folks.

Spend your money however you like. Do it early and often. And leave your neighbor alone regarding how he spends his money.

I'm trying to think of the minimum amount of money I would have to accept to wear any watch on a daily basis. I might take $5,000 if you made me wear any one of those on a rotating basis every day for six months. I would have to think about it, though.
