Because he did not play well at all. He had a 57% competition rate witch is not good and only he only had 7 TD passes with 7 int's. His stats and attitude were terrible. Not many teams want to throw money at that.
News flash: He played in Cleveland. Brady would have been an utter failure there given the lack of offensive line and craptastic coaching.

He looks a heck of a lot healthier in photographs now than he did several months ago. Definitely added back some weight. Hopefully he'll get his shot and take advantage of it.

Not sure what to make of his time in Cleveland. The way they've gone through QB's it's obvious that not all the problems were his fault. It was pretty clear the offensive line had no clue what they were doing. There were play-action passes called against the Bengals where the guard stood up and didn't lay a finger on the DT. He was getting hit 2 seconds after the snap just like every other QB who played there.

All he had to do to stick in Cleveland and stay in the league was stay out of trouble and be professional but that was too much for him to handle.

Josh McCown completed 64% of his passes and Austin ****ing Davis completed 60% of his passes that season in Cleveland.

McCown had 12 TDs to 4 interceptions.

McCown was a career journeyman who once found himself in the UFL and Davis has already been chewed up and spat out of the league. Hardly a couple of "Tom Bradys"

You'll never convince me that Pettine gave Manziel a fair shot to win the starting job and the reps with the first team he should have. Once McCown was signed, he was the starter.

McCown also completed only 54% of his passes last season with 6:6 TD:INT.

And McCown ain't on a team anymore.

Kessler went 66% with 6:2 TD:INT.

I know there's lots of things certain folks will never be convinced of concerning Manziel. :-/

If he is physically ready, I think a good many teams might be willing to roll the dice and get him on the cheap. They will certainly be buying low. If it works out and he turns into a dependable backup (or starter) then they have hit a homerun. If he doesn't work out then they aren't out much money (at least not in terms of NFL dollars).

If he can get physically prepared and demonstrates he is mentally ready and more mature, someone will make a cheap bet and take their chance.

Ray Lewis is black. Totally different standard to be held to in re: to the NFL.

I'm dying for the Patriots to pawn off garapalo to some dumbass org like the Texans or the Titans, Vikings or Browns, for a 3rd round pick. After that massacre, they pick up Johnny on the cheap and let him learn from the nfl billy goat. That would be borderline erotic.

JFF proved his chops on the field. Not even debatable. The only question are his other issues.

Everything you say about Manziel's physical measurables are correct. In college he was one of the best athletes on the field. In the pros he is not. But that is not what would make Manziel a good quarterback at that level. The game is slow to him. He does not panic. That is what would make Manziel a good to great NFL quarterback. When most quarterbacks crap themselves he would not.

I agree. And I saw great promise during his limited opportunities (mostly self inflicted) with the Browns in his last season. Especially given the crap OL and WR corps. Put him on a lot of other teams that year and he shines. He definitely made some big mistakes but for the most part made the most of what he had on his team and even showcased his legs a few times.

And it is not running. As shown by his 40 time he is not going to run away from anyone on the NFL level. But he can buy himself time with awareness and when he takes off if he catches the defense off guard that is 30 yards right there.

I do not like Manziel. I get he is an Aggie but he made an ass of himself and our university with his antics. He did some great things on the field but erased all of it IMO with his off-field stuff. But in all the years I have been watching football I have never seen a player have the type of feel for the game that he has. And it is not blind luck. Manziel just knows how to avoid pressure, to find holes, to exploit aggressiveness. He lets the defense make their move and then he exploits them for it.

If he never plays another down of football matters little to me. I want him to get his life back. But Manziel will go down as one of the top 5 college football players that have ever lived. And if he had stayed another year another Heisman would have been a given. Imagine that guy as a junior. He would have owned college football and would have made his previous Heisman candidacy look ordinary. His passing stats improved his second year. He almost by himself beat Alabama. We always stood a chance with him as quarterback. I dare say we would have won the MNC that year, even going to Alabama.. That more than anything when it is all said and done is how I will remember Manziel. Not the shirtless mug shot, not the Scooby Doo outfit, not the illegal payments he received. He was the greatest college football player I have ever seen.

Manziel didn't give himself a fair shot to win & keep the starting job.

The guy admitted it himself to the media after his first year "I need to do everything right and if I don't I'm going to be exposed" in response to him not being committed to Football and to being prepared/ready in his first start against the Bengals. And in his second year he just didn't do what he had to do to be a consistent starter. Yeah he was on the Browns but his demise had A LOT to do with himself. He was his own worst enemy.

I agree he didn't do himself any favors, but a coaching staff that supported him could have helped him with some of his self inflicted issues. From seeing Pettine's reaction when he was asked about Manziel after practices, he looked flustered to have to even mention him. I saw it as a pretty clear sign of "he's here because ownership wanted him, not me."

Some team , no doubt, will sign Johnny. I just hope it's a team with strong leadership from the top down, executives, coaches, and players. If so, I think he will make it !

Quote:

Recently the name Manziel has began to rise once again. The NFL's castoff quarterback has begun to turn his life around and is striving to have a second chance in his athletic career.

...

Back in 2014 the Bucs were linked with having interest in Manziel, even meeting with him prior to the draft. Former head coach Lovie Smith attended Manziel's pro-day which would mean the then rookie General Manager Jason Licht did his research on the quarterback.

...

As you may know, Jason Licht and the Bucs eventually passed on a quarterback in the 2014 draft after their favorite, Blake Bortles, was selected. The team eventually used the 7th overall pick on Manziel's teammate and best friend, wide receiver Mike Evans.

...

If Manziel is truly serious about turning his life around (take a look at his Instagram account), the Bucs would make a great boom or bust business decision in signing him. A small prove it contract where Manziel can once again humble himself under the guidance of Dirk Koetter and Jameis Winston would be ideal.

Believe it or not, Johnny Manziel's NFL return attempt appears to be gaining some legs.
Quote:

NFL draft analyst Eric Galko had an interesting nugget on the former Texas A&M Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback in his latest article. Galko, who notes that the combine presents an ideal opportunity to talk with scouts, coaches, and personnel, said he believes two NFL teams could take a flier on Manziel.
Here's what Galko specifically had to say on the subject:
Quote:

I believe in the Johnny Manziel return hype. Two teams I'd watch out for as possible training camp destinations: Green Bay Packers and New Orleans Saints.
While it's doubtful Manziel has any shot at starting in the NFL anytime soon, the two destinations make sense in that regard. The former Aggie won't be pushing Aaron Rodgers or Drew Brees for playing time but would be able to learn from an experienced Super Bowl MVP in each city. Not only that, but each club features a head coach known for their ability to develop the quarterback position.

I agree, Johnny Manziel is responsible for himself being out of the NFL right now, but at the same time it is Cleveland's fault they couldn't keep him from being a dip**** and basically wasted their first round pick.

Tony to the Texans and then Johnny signs as his back up. Tony is out with an injury 6 weeks in and JFF is back in Texas doing his thing ... on the field.

I think Johnny has a suspension coming his way as soon as he gets back.
