I'd love to see him get on with a team like the Chiefs, I think a stable franchise in a smaller market would be wonderful for his professional development, especially if he's able to be under a veteran QB/QB coaching staff that can help him transition into his film study and such.

Didn't work the first time. You don't get much more out of the spotlight than the Cleveland Browns.
Ummm....yeah. Kind of a big difference between KC and Cleveland in management, talent, coaching, etc.

Exactly. The best place to get out of the spotlight has to be the Chargers. Philip Rivers is probably the most under the radar future hall of famer in the history of the league.

Before he was drafted, I thought the best thing for him would be to backup a good veteran like Brees or Rivers for a couple of years.

Dude is a sick talent, and I don't buy into the "you have to be 6 foot 4, 240" to be successful in the NFL. There are numerous examples of this not being true.

Why would you not take a flyer on a heavily restricted contract that basically would cut him as soon as he violates?

Outside of the party atmosphere of the city, New Orleans would be a good place for him to go. Brees' career will come to an end soon, so he can teach Johnny how to be an NFL QB, and the coaching staff is a pretty stable staff, outside of the issues they had a few years ago.

The league knows that if you are under 6' your chances are not at all good. The league knows that most of the good ones are between 6'2" & 6'6".

Sorry but I don't believe he is generating much interest.

2 months of taking life seriously again doesn't make up for 2 years of instagram hookers, champagne, laziness, drug induced stupors, girlfriend beatdowns, and quitting on your teammates.

The most important quality for an NFL QB is to be trustworthy. NOBODY trusts Manziel and it will take more than 2 months to re-earn that trust.
which NFL team do you coach ?

Likely one of the 31 who didn't waste a draft choice nor waste time on Manziel.

The guy has the talent to be a starting QB in the NFL, no question. Someone should give him a shot to get his head on straight as a backup, and pull the plug if it doesn't workout.

Professional sports leagues and professional teams are in a permanent defensive posture these days for social related issues. Sports media love negative story lines about entitled athletes and excessive athlete behavior. In fact, most of the times the story templates are formulaic and just waiting the names of the athletes names to drop into the blanks. Also, as we've seen at Baylor, the only thing better than a story about entitled athletes is the moralizing about a 'win at any cost' coaching mentality.

Even if a team could cut Manziel for any reason at any time, it would still look like a black-eye for management to give a 'known problem' child a 7th chance to make them look stupid. I don't see any reason for coaching staff to wager personal capital to bring him back.

Because he's the poster child of everything an NFL team isn't in order to be successful. Johnny is all about Johnny. Always has been.

GMs and coaches don't want the distractions that he brings to camp. Especially when he's shown no success in the NFL.

His best chance is CFL. Stay out of trouble for a couple years then try again.

We still are, and the talent that brought that seems to have gotten his head on straight. That talent has also lead to getting great recruits...Not taking advantage of this lies on somebody else.

Are we at the national level of Ohio State or Bama? No. But we're not some unknown school or a "hick" school that many thought we were.

At the NFL level, Johnny is simply not the kind of extraordinary talent that would cause teams to go the extra mile to give him a second chance. Great college player? Absolutely. But there is virtually nothing about him that says "NFL can't miss prospect". He simply does not have the physical makeup (height) to justify taking the risk of passing on a player with less baggage to bring him on. If he works his ass off to get into playing shape and cleans up his act in his personal life, he might get a chance as a backup QB on team that has run out of other options. But if he by some chance gets an opportunity to play and does well, that may never translate into a starting job because there will always be that huge question mark about his ability to keep his personal life under control. Teams are going to be reluctant to make the kind of long term commitment they have to make with a starting QB. Special NFL talents get a second chance. Johnny is not a special NFL talent. I wish him well, but his greatest value to an NFL team was the Johnny Football aura he brought with him from college. It was a marketing gold mine. He may be able to recover his physical tools, but the Johnny Football advantage is gone forever. He simply pissed that away.

Personally, I think his best shot will be in the CFL. The Canadian game suits his talents, he'll get a fresh start away from the 24/7 microscope of American media, and he'll get a chance to prove that he can stay on the straight and narrow for an extended length of time. After a few years in the CFL, he might be able to come back to the NFL, but I think any attempt to make it in the NFL at this time is doomed to failure.

Everything you say about Manziel's physical measurables are correct. In college he was one of the best athletes on the field. In the pros he is not. But that is not what would make Manziel a good quarterback at that level. The game is slow to him. He does not panic. That is what would make Manziel a good to great NFL quarterback. When most quarterbacks crap themselves he would not.

I wish him the best and hope he gets another chance, but based off of the small sample size we have of him playing in the NFL, your claim has no basis. In college what you said was true but that isn't something that directly translates to the NFL as the game is much faster at the next level. Not saying you are wrong or that what you said will never be true, just that there is not enough evidence right now to support what you said about the "game being slow to him."

When he actually got the chance to play in Cleveland (key piece there) he did pretty decent. Couple that with the fact that he had a coach that didn't want him there, and his decent stats look a little better.

Myles:

I watched that Pittsburgh game. Manziel absolutely shredded them. Not to say that it was not a one game phenomenon but Manziel was spectacular that game against a better than average defense.

I actually have a $500 bet that Manziel will never be on an NFL roster much less take a snap. But that is because why would anyone want the headache of him? But from what he can do on the field Manziel can play in the NFL at a high level. He won't because his life is a disaster.

I did not say the NFL is slow. But the speed of the game does not bother Manziel.

Why would San Francisco not take a flyer on Manziel? What the hell do they have to lose? Watson is not a better quarterback prospect than Manziel. If Manziel can get his life back in order, stay off drugs/alcohol he can play in the NFL. Manziel does work hard. He is just not consistent.

It all depends on Manziel. He does have an NFL quality arm and he is accurate. He can move around.
ashley
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Because he did not play well at all. He had a 57% competition rate witch is not good and only he only had 7 TD passes with 7 int's. His stats and attitude were terrible. Not many teams want to throw money at that.
