Well this has obviously been a sad year for both of us... but just remember, you didn't lose to KANSAS in FOOTBALL! Now here's some questions I have...
1. So do ya'll really think there is a realistic chance that Sumlin gets fired? I personally think he has done fairly well. Obviously needs help on defense.
2. What do ya'll think of Charlie Strong? Should he be fired if he beats TCU comfortably and wins a bowl game? All I know is that Texas has 19 returning starters and I realllly don't want Herman.
3. What if Texas and Texas A&M meet up in a bowl game? This seems unlikely, but boy it would be fun. I think A&M would beat Texas because our defense is just horrible. Sure, Foreman would run wild, but our defense would be destroyed by Knight/Kirk/Ford.
4. If Sumlin gets fired, who do you want to replace him? Sumlin 2.0 AKA Tom Herman? Kiffin?

Please don't report me... I really just want to see what's up. I'm not here for any silly arguments or anything like that.

*EDIT* I'm actually going to college next year and I'm down to UT and A&M. I'm really considering A&M because the crazy liberals in Austin, lol.

1) Not this year. And he's done poorly with the tools he has to work with. Like a mechanic with all the diagnostic tools who tries to fix the problem with grease and duct tape.

2) Keep Strong.

3) A&M would get healthy by that point and then it would just get embarrassing for tu.

4) I like Fleck, but there's candidates out there all over the place who could possibly be worthy. I don't think it matters who the coach is, though, this program is just destined for failure. This is never going to be a great football program.

I hate you Sips with a passion but I will play nice.

- No Sumlin does not get fired this year. He will have one more year to get above 8 wins.

- I pray to God t.u. Keeps Charlie forever

- If we play t.u. in a month then yes I think we win. Foreman will have a great game though.

Fleck seems like a real good coach but he has no connections to the state of Texas.

1) I doubt Sumlin is fired. His seat just isn't hot enough. I think his job should be in jeopardy but I doubt it is.
2) I think Strong is gone and they are just waiting to tell him. I don't think beating A&M would even save his job.
3) I think Texas would beat A&M at this point. Who knows if Knight would even be healthy. I think the Texas defense could defend our bread and butter play, the sideline pass to a stationary receiver for a five yard loss. I doubt our defense could tackle Swoopes. We just made LSU look like they have an elite offense.
4) No idea.

Strong can't succeed there. It's going to be tough for anyone. The program is toxic.

Sumlin should get fired because we have the nicest facilities in the country, the largest stadium in the SEC, and he is serving up **** steak and calling it prime.

Sumlin should be fired......Hermann is better than you deserve because you are years away from a championship in the worst big 5 conference, we could have him over you but we are too dumb to take care of business....We should hire Bob Stoops or Mark Richt.......oh yeah and " no fruit sic#s like the orange of ut"

1) probably not

2) keep him

3) sure, why not?

4) Katy Perry

Go to Texas. At least you'll know the program will be mediocre. If you come here, you will lose yourself in hype only to be blindsided by a constant abundance of blue balls midway through the season.

1. Nah, he'll be fired next year if/when he doesn't win 10 games; which will be unrealistic for next year's squad.
2. Charlie is NOT the answer in Austin; never has been, so of course I hope you keep him.
3. We're bad, but not Kansas level bad. You ARE Kansas level bad. Your only hope would be to let Heard run the read-option with Foreman; would be hard for anyone to stop.
4. I like David Shaw myself, but hoping that a "leading candidate" makes himself more obvious next year when fewer people are looking

By the way, both schools are fine institutions, but if you are already concerned about the lib culture not being in line with who you are; you are answering your own question. My only advice is this - don't listen to t-shirt fans (from either school). Nothing wrong with t-shirt fans when it comes to SPORTS, but don't let someone influence a huge part of your EVERYDAY life if they haven't even set foot on the actual campus themselves.

1. No, but I have little faith that he will ever get any better either. We will keep him for a few more 7-8 win seasons, let recruiting dip, and then fire him for whoever is coaching at UH at the time.

2. Keep Strong. It helps us not look so bad by comparison.

3. A&M would probably win, but not by nearly as much as we should. Horns are baaad, but we'd find a way to let them hang around for 3 quarters.

4. Someone with deep recruiting ties to Louisiana and other southeastern states. Texas high schools simply don't produce much real talent on defense anymore. There isn't a single college program that relies on Texas recruiting fielding a decent defense anymore, and it's been that way for years. Get Texas kids for the offense, and dip into the SE for defense. That's what will spur the next great football program in Texas. I hope it's us.

As for the schools. They're both fine institutions if you want to stay in Texas. Outside of Texas, both are seen as among the better state schools, but that's about it. I had a bunch of friends that went to UT, and from what I saw, the ones that weren't in love with Austin were sick of the town by their 3rd year, and did summer courses to get out quicker. The ones who LOVED Austin from day one, all pretty much failed out after a year of heavy partying, and ended up at ACC.

Recent rankings out on business schools had A&M at 18th in country and tu at 22. Look it up, rankings might be 1 off for either but A&M was ranked higher.

If you go to A&M, welcome home Ag.
If you go to tu, EAD and enjoy working for an Ag.

Welcome. Ignore the animals...

1. No - he wont get fired. Likely should at this point, but will have another year left at least. He signed a 6yr deal in 2013. Additionally, we included a nice clause that forces us to be the entire remainder of his buy out if he is fired without "cause." Funny, as I know that "cause" has legal implications, but at ANY other job in the country, poor performance is reason for "cause."

2. I think Charlie is a good mid-level coach and was just out of his element at Texas. Boosters, pressure, recruiting in a new state. His success at Louisville wasn't an accident. But I think a coach's success can often come down to fit with school, area, and conference. Also, I think Herman will do well for yall...

3. Texas v. A&M is like a couple of crippled old men attacking each other with canes. It would be entertainingly only because it is terribly sad. What pathetic showings from both programs this year. And I wouldn't put money on A&M winning their bowl game, no matter who they play.

4. It will never happen, but I'd go after Petrino. Kiffin I think needs to stay an OC. There are brilliant coordinators who just can do the HC thing - I think he is one of them. I also would be ok taking a huge risk on P.J. Fleck, from Western Mich. Enough with hiring coaches with A&M/Texas ties --- im read for an outsider, someone new.

Good luck in your college selection. I will add that while it seems like a huge decision now, the quality of education from both institutions is largely similar. And if you end up going into a field that requires post bacc education, then your undergraduate degree will largely be meaningless anyways. Folks care much more about where I got my doctorate and did residency/fellowship than my undergrad. So try not to let it stress you out. =) Also, consider schools that don't seem like a "perfect fit." You collegiate education should be an opportunity to experience new people, cultures, and ways of thinking. This does not mean that you will like/agree with everything you see and hear (and shouldn't). But sometimes going towards the things that make us uncomfortable or afraid is the path to true growth.

Again, best of luck!

Both schools are largely the same. If you know what your major is and have an idea of what you want to do with it, pick whichever school has the best recruiting pipeline.

If possible I would encourage you to get out of state, there's a whole other world out there...and you can always come back home to Texas

If there's any concern that t.u. coached by Strong could beat A&M, then Sumlin needs to go.
