Is this for basketball? I'd think Kentucky would be a bit higher.

I think LSU is too high. Their AD is terrible.

Depends on what your criteria of "best" is.

TN and GA are also better jobs than Auburn.

I would rather be at GA or Tennessee than Auburn. Definitely better to be No1 in a state, they are in bigger states population wise and don't directly compete with Alabama for every recruit.

Especially GA. I would put GA maybe even before LSU because their fan base isn't as nuts.

FLA definitely better than LSU.

Florida isn't a better job than LSU. But thanks for playing.

Who has won a national championship in football in the past 50 years on that list? I'm sure fan support for everyone that has tasted a MNC drives money and fan support to make those jobs good jobs, unless they have some other major disfumctuonal issue!

Every prospective coach has different things that are important to them. It's personal and subjective. These kind of rankings are a waste of time imo.

OP way overrates the Auburn job. Little brother to a giant program in a small state. Yes, they have a recent NC, but that was a perfect storm that season of fortune. They are decent each year as of late because they have one of the best coaches in the country that they were smart enough to grab.

SEC Program Ratings (easiest to hardest to recruit to-- which is really what matters)
1. Alabama (Nick has built this into a national recruiting juggernaut-- this ranking spot could change if Nick ever left)
2. LSU (Most dense talent rich area in-state.. Kids want to stay in state- no real in state competition).
3. Florida (should be top tier program in state- hot bed of talent)
4. Texas A&M (should be at least 2nd best program in state- obviously lots of talent too. Only SEC team in Texas helps narrow long-term gap with Texas).
5. Tennessee (Clear top tier program in state- decent amount of in-state talent)
6. Georgia (Same as 5)
7. Ole Miss (this low except when they are cheating their a**** off like recently,, Not a great state to recruit from and MSU shares some SEC-love in-state.)
8. Arkansas (Not enough talent in-state)
9. Auburn (See initial comments)
10. South Carolina (share recruits with Clemson- very little tradition)
11. Missouri - only program in state, but not enoufh talent.
12. Kentucky- hypothetically could be a good program- but have never done anything.
13.Mississippi State (relatively smaller state to recruit from- 2nd tier to Ole Miss)
14.. Vanderbilt (enough said)

Edit: left off Mizzou and UK originally. Not surprising though in hindsight..

Move Miss State to 14. Move Vandy to 13. Something has to be said for living in Nashville over Stark Vegas.

How long do you want to ignore this user?
Auburn's recent history suggests that you take the job, win a title in year one or two, get a fat contract, then get fired after a couple more years and sit on your butt collecting a humongous buyout for the next three, four years (if you feel like taking a vacation).

I'd take that kind of job.

Factors that affect the ability of head football coaches to establish and maintain national championship caliber programs.

Recruiting
Prestige
Capital
Facilities
Status of Rosters

IMO, Malzhan was never a good coach. They had a lot of talent and a LOT of lucky plays the year they made it to the Natty. Alabama would have wiped the floor with that Florida State team.

I would go to Gainesville in a heartbeat over Baton Rouge. Recruiting in FLA is way better than in LA and you are the name brand school in the 2nd best recruiting state.

Plus, not as many idiot, ******* boosters to deal with.

Only reason LSU has a title in last 30 years is Nick Saban happened to coach there.

Strong words TexanJeff. But LSU is The School in Louisiana...the best, virtually uncontested recruiting grounds in the United States.

Disagree on LSU. They get their pick of in-state talent in a state loaded with talent. Florida is constantly fighting for Florida talent with just about everyone in-state and out-of-state .

Sorry, I misspoke.

Only reason LSU has a title in the last 58 years is that Nick Saban happened to coach there.
