Maybe we should hope for a loss? Our two best seasons in the last 20 years began with a loss.
2008 says hello

It indicates nothing. 2012 L to Florida = 11-2. 2014 and 2015 Ws vs SC and ASU = mediocre at best.

A loss to UCLA won't define the season.
First games of the season are often determined by the team that does not turn the ball over, does not have drive killing penalties, and at least maintain field position on special teams:
1) I'm not as concerned with interceptions by UCLA defense as I am concerned with A&M new center, new qb, and new set of rbs NOT putting the ball on the ground due to poor exchanges. Might happen once or twice. Will get better with game experience. Center, qb, handle the ball almost every offensive play. All our guys are new this year. If we have a couple bobbles, let's hope they aren't in the shadow of our own endzone giving UCLA easy points.
2) Aggie offense needs to stay clear of excessive motion, procedure, shift, and holding penalties. Aggie defense must not give up offsides, personal foul, or defensive pass interference. It is difficult enough to work through the blocking and tackling part of the game. Can't give up free yards, free field position, or free first downs.
3) new punter / new kicker. Ags need to avoid giving up field position due to the new special team punter / kicker. At least UCLA appears to have new punter and kicker also.
Our personnel is as good as their personnel. We're at home. Ags should have a good chance to pick up field position or points on punt returns or kickoff returns. I'll be anxious to see if we have an answer at linebacker to slow / stop the run.
I expect the Ags win the game.
Should be fun.
