The drop in the rankings has less to do with conference affiliation and more to do with watering down the degree by admitting anyone and everyone to increase enrollment.

A&M isn't a good fit culturally and academically in the SEC? Are you insane? TAMU is an old school, deeply southern Land Grant school. We are cut from the same cloth as MSU, LSU, Auburn, and Arkansas. We are conservative and have deep ties to the military and our founders had roots in The Confederacy..

Having spent considerable time in both regions, I consider Texas more southwest than "deep south". And land grants were not a southern thing. Most of the oldest public universities are land grants - UC Berkeley, Wisconsin UMass, Ohio State, Michigan State, Penn State and even some private schools - Cornell, MIT, etc.

Also, I would wager we send more graduates to the west coast than the southeast. I know many Aggies working in Tech in San Francisco and silicon valley and many in LA and Seattle. Texas definitely has more in common economically with California than any other state.

And it's time to let go of the "conservative" stereotype. Almost half of A&M is made up of minorities now. I doubt they're very conservative.

How did sec cause that?

You don't think being associated with Stanford and Cal vs LSU and Mississsippi State makes a difference? A&M has dropped a lot in rankings since joining a conference full of "football schools".
Our academic standing's descent has nothing to do with the SEC and everything to do with Rick Perry and John Sharp wanting to turn A&M into a diploma mill.

Isn't there a land grant school in every confederate state?

"Not a southern thing" isn't really factual.

Not excited about any of those potential newbies joining your conference, Big 12?

That's how the rest of the conferences feel about you.

Big xii talk about merging with the SEC is absurd. Of course the big xii would benefit from joining a more powerful group, but there's zero benefit to the SEC.

I hope not. The SEC isn't a good fit culturally or academically. I still think we should have gone to the PAC. Mix in some Texas rivalries with the PAC South schools and that would be a fun conference.

Texas A&M is a better cultural fit in the SEC than it was in the big 12. Being in the Pac would've been a terrible cultural fit. The SEC is an immensely better conference academically than the b12.

For years, television consultants have been telling college football decision-makers that their negotiation model is lax. Six major organizations the five power conferences, plus Notre Dame fracture the bounty by brokering separate deals with ESPN and Fox and NBC and CBS.

The NFL model is much better. All 32 teams, both conferences, unite to hammer out a deal, and all the zeroes to the left of the decimal point declare the success of such tactics.

Prediction: A&M is not in the "SEC" in 20 years. Conferences will merge.

the PAC has its own problems. (No viable conference tv network, small venues, lack of interest among the populous, late start times, long and expensive travel distances. We don't need any of that

The big10 is in the rust belt, nothing interesting to see there. Those match ups with purdue, Iowa, Minnesota, Maryland, Rutgers, Indiana, are boring at best. And who the hell wants to spend their fall afternoons watching football in Bad weather. Hell even Norte dame didn't want to have anything to do with the big10. They went southeast and hooked up with the ACC.

We are where we need to be! In the SEC. Life is good!

The geographical box people want to box Texas is tiresome since its a huge state. But there is absolutely no way the entire state identifies as Southwestern.

East Texas & the Gulf Coast null that. Swamps, bayous, gators, creole & cajun culture mixed are not Southwestern.

This thread has provided some deep belly laughs for me!! However, I do agree with whomever said, ''rick perry and john sharp diploma mill crusade"!!! contributing to the decline in academic standing, if that is even true.

The sip trolls and their buddies starring their posts are out in force on this thread.

Here's reality sippies....there are no Aggies that regret the SEC move or feel that we aren't a much better fit culturally in our new home. It is college football mecca. Nobody thinks we should have gone west or maintained a "relationship" with you backstabbing cheaters. NO ONE.

Enjoy the hell you've made for yourselves. Nobody likes you.

Like we fit in with a bunch of left leaning hippies? It was bad enough to have one Sip in our previous conference but now you wish we had 6?
