Success is .500 in the SEC West? LOL, now that is an incredibly high exoextation! Let's be a four (4) loss team forever... That sets the bar high, I'm sure all those 4-5* prospects can't wait to play on a 4 loss team, we don't need no stinking championships... Championships are way overrated!
If you're referring to me, I believe you miss-read...as we share the same sentiment.

I can't decide if I hope you're right, or I hope you're wrong.

Do you want us to succeed, or do you want us to fail?

Which one would make you right?
Why is he on this board if he knows Sumlin will fail?
Why do you keep asking stupid questions?
Why can't you show more respect for opinions different from yours?

Here's the won/loss record over the last 4 years for the sec west (with number of years with a winning SEC record in parenthesis.)

Alabama: 28-4 (4)
LSU: 20-12 (3)
A&M 18-14 (1)
Miss: 17-15 (2)
Miss St: 17-15 (1)
Auburn: 13-19 (1)
Arkansas: 10-22 (1)

It's a tough league with little margin for error. However, I do agree with the others that say we really need a win against Alabama or LSU to keep recruiting momentum going in the right direction.

Saban at Michigan State is a good example of patience paying off, but they are few and far between. I can think of Nick Saban and Dabo Swinney as guys who suffered their first 4 or 5 years and went on to great success. Dabo is the only one who did it at his current stop that I can think of. I don't know why you even mentioned LSU. There's no comparison to what he did there versus Sumlin here so that was just a poor example.

All in all it's very simple. Kevin Sumlin took over a program that had the best QB and arguably the best OL in the county. Now, he does get credit for winning with them, but it certainly made his job easier both on the field and in recruiting the first couple of years. It helped us pull in a top 10 class in 2013, top 5 in 2014, and borderline top 10 in 2015. The momentum gained from that was substantial.

Simply put, Sumlin needs to start winning now otherwise it's just going to get harder and harder for him to win here as we get further and further removed from the Manziel era and it's clear he isn't going to be able to recruit off of that any more. Now, all he can do to help recruiting is work his tail off and win on the field. I don't think it's at all unreasonable to think that 9-3 seasons(at a minimum most years) should be the norm from this point forward. I think here at A&m we are capable of average 10+ wins a year including the bowl game, so 9-3, 10-2 seasons should be regular occurrences. In a down year, a competitive 8-4 is acceptable every now and then.

The LSU comment was just to be a smartazz.
Aside from that, I generally agree w the rest of where you are, just with some perspective added as a footnote.

The 4 year turnaround to dominance isn't as normal as you make it out to be. It's happened, yes. And while Sumlin isn't Saban or Meyer, he's not a slapstick either. And aside from stealing a Saban/Meyer, who you gonna go get? Herman is Sumlin 2.0 from the same ol' Coog High.

And to expect the 4 year turnaround to dominance while being in the SEC makes it even harder. It's hard as F just to stay consistently competitive in the SEC, let alone be dominant. Richt? Spurrier? Fulmer?

I agree we can get there, with our resources and backing, etc. And that we SHOULD get there. Just not in the microwave 4 to 5 year span.
I don't expect to be dominant, but we've gone 11-10 in our last 21 games with 7 double digit losses. There's a wide gap that I expected to be in now between 11-10 and dominant. I think 8-5 in year 4 was a huge failure/disappointment. Asking for 10-3 last year, in year 4, isn't asking to be dominant. Since we underachieved, he needs to overachieve this year and go 10-3 or even better. If not, I don't have any faith he ever will and his seat will just get hotter and hotter until we replace him.

You can break down the wins/losses over our first 4 years any number of ways but this seems like a very fair way to do it. League games only.

And yes, somehow beating Bama and LSU more times than we lose to them in the coming season(s) will go a long way in keeping Sumlin around.

SEC West Division Game Records

School Total '12 '13 '14 '15

Alabama 20-4 5-1 5-1 5-1 5-1

Arky 6-18 1-5 0-6 2-4 3-3

Auburn 9-15 0-6 5-1 3-3 1-5

LSU 14-10 5-1 4-2 2-4 3-3

M State 10-14 2-4 2-4 4-2 2-4

Ole Miss 13-11 3-3 2-4 3-3 5-1

Texas A&M 12-12 5-1 3-3 2-4 2-4

I think common competition is a better indicator. Point differentials would be a lot better but this gives a good rough overview comparing the programs.

If ties still existed we would be 10-12-2 going 5-1 3-3 1-4-1 1-4-1

Arky goes 4-16-5 1-5 0-5-1 2-3-1 1-2-3

Hello pot, meet kettle. You come along and pop off and then don't like my reply. Simple enough. Too bad, go drink some koolaid, pray, cheerlead, hope for the best, whatever...if you say summy will go 10-2 this year, I'm perfectly fine with your opinion. I don't think it will happen though. Bayside, of whom I replied and you came along to the rescue, was solidly in the 'keep sumlin' camp back in December and I haven't forgot. We're going to find out this fall who's eating crow. Hell, I'm fine with eating crow. I'll eat a double meat crow sandwich if stumblin can beat lsu and bama. All this .500 in the west stuff though, that ain't gonna cut it. Nevertheless, don't start whining when you interject yourself in a conversation and someone comes along and replies. Easy enough cupcake?
