What's your school? I say law school doesn't count and that you are an Aggie. I've got friends that went to schools that aren't good in football, but went to law schools with decent college teams. It seems they disregard the bad athletic program in favor of the good program. Thoughts?
I didn't go around and poll the 280 other kids in my class, but here's my take...
The fellow Aggies in my class at Texas Law were Aggies, first and foremost.
And I can't think of any real big Longhorn fans that didn't get their undergrad in Austin that were big Longhorn fans. The exceptions being some folks that were "Longhorn families" and had been Longhorn fans before that.
I also know of folks that had terrible (or no) football team or reputable athletic program at their undergrad that still remained loyal to that undergrad institution over Longhorn athletics.
So, I don't think its just a result of the Longhorns having struggles athletically. I'm sure if they were better, more students would be bigger Longhorn fans but I don't think there is a huge shift in athletic loyalties.
It probably doesn't hurt that the law school in Austin is very much on the corner of campus and many/most of us live(d) in the direction that didn't require us to criss-cross campus.
