I don't get it.
When taking a shower the water temperature can suddenly be affected by someone flushing a toilet.
So proper etiquette before giving them a shock is to yell crapper so they can adequately prepare themselves for the impending danger. Once they are in position to weather the storm they signal the all clear by shouting "shoot it".
And if you were on the crapper and DID NOT yell thus giving fair warning to all in the shower, that person could and would most likely be disciplined, especially if you were a frick. Thus it was not only a courtesy as much as it was an expected norm.
