I woke up this morning to a text from my best friend, a Baylor Bear, that simply read:
A grown man wrote something passive aggressive on his Twitter account about a high school student, which caused more high school students to Tweet things that were eventually all read out loud on ESPN. You can't write stuff this good!
It was refreshing to laugh at! And really, I realized that I (and maybe a bunch of other Aggie fans) have been taking everything too seriously. Our program isn't going under. These headlines don't have to do with people getting hurt, or laws being broken. They're just twists in our overly-dramatic college football soap opera, which continues to entertain us all deep into the offseason. There's certainly a time and a place for gravitas, but this? This is worth a giggle, a grin, and shot of gin.
On and off for months now, Ags on /r/12thman have complained about feeling hounded and reviled on this subreddit. "It's hostile toward Aggies right now" is a common sentiment. But maybe, JUST MAYBE, we're to blame sometimes too. With our patented B.A.S., it's easy to feel like we're being personally victimized when someone pokes fun at a situation we're taking too close to heart. And this doesn't just happen to Ags, it happens any time a negative headlines pops up. Some people are ****ty about it, some people make off-color jokes, and some people take comments the wrong way. It happens!
I guess the point I'm trying to make is this: We're all just strangers who wound up on this subreddit because of a shared love for a sport, who constantly get entertainment and and a sense of community from one another. It's special! And if nothing else, I'm glad that today gave me a chance to step back and appreciate /r/CFB and all of you. The memes and jokes and commentary make these situations 100000000x more fun. Sports really aren't that exciting in a vacuum, it's the trash-talking and community that make it all worthwhile.
I hope any Aggies who are feeling personally antagonized can take a few deep breaths and join me in having a laugh (and maybe a beer).
And don't get me wrong! I love Texas A&M football. I guard it and respect it with my life. I don't take that lightly day to day. ... well, maybe just today.
Sincerely,
fireprince

quote:I groggily pulled up /r/CFB only to find that, yet again, Texas A&M had managed to steal headlines for more organizational incompetence. And honestly? I laughed. Not sarcastically or bitterly - but because it's genuinely funny.
So are y'all gonna fire that coach or what?
