Bama hasn't had QB that was a Bama commit as a freshman since McCarron left. Those guys had to come from somewhere.

I thought Blake Sims went to Bama as a fish and waited his turn. Plus, didn't Coker beat out a fish last season?

Sims was a RB though.

What Emilio said. And though the article focuses on A&M as "the worst of the worst" it's partly true on numbers alone; I don't think any other program has had as many problems with QB transfers. The one-two punch of Allen/Murray was either unprecedented or exceedingly rare, and potentially program-breaking, which is why it's hoisted up as the prime example of a growing problem.

Hopefully it isn't and Hubes or Knight are at least solid for a year or two 'til Martell or Mazzone's guy get here. But it's always true and LSU is the latest poster child: if you don't have a quarterback, you won't get anywhere. Hopefully Sumlin has at least one on the roster and the train can keep truckin'.

Regarding Harbaugh, he's just plain playing a dangerous game. I think he knows he wants to be back in the NFL, so he's playing a two-three year short game: win as much as possible as soon as he can so he can get noticed by an NFL team. Then he can bolt and it doesn't matter what he does at college again, because he's purposefully destroying his reputation in order to get the maximum amount of talent possible for this year and this year alone. It's a certain calculated madness, which is his trademark.

The problem is he's doing this in the social media era, where it will be impossible to hide his antics for long. It's already coming up in this recruiting cycle, and it will be used against him in the next weeks. Very unscrupulous and I'm glad Sumlin doesn't play that game.

Baker Mayfield commenting on the ego's of 4 and 5 stars? That dbag might have an ego bigger than all 4 and 5 stars combined.

"wonder what's going on down at A&M"...spoken from a guy who ran away from tech after one season. How is this kid being looked at for comments on the current state of the high school/college QB? Especially after Patterson blasted him and his helicopter dad in the news.
Maybe Baker (who TF names their kid Baker anyway?) could ask his former teammate Trevor Knight "what's going on down at A&M." For phauck's sake, A&M loses two QBs to transfer then adds one via transfer. Toss Hubastank in and its a wash in terms of bodies lost to transfer.

Sims was only a RB as a redshirt freshman. He was recruited as a QB/Athlete and spent two years as a back up QB to McCarron.

Coker beat out a sophomore (Cooper Bateman), redshirt freshman (David Cornwall) and a true fresman (Blake Barnett) this year. Cornwall had a great spring but bad fall camp and Barnett supposedly pushed hard until the start of the season when they went with the Coker/Bateman tandem.

"Quarterback dads have always been the worst" Hopefully not true in Martell's case.

One red flag was holding him back for sports. Martell will turn 19 the January of his senior year.

Here is an article on Bama QB transfers from a while back - seems relevant again.

In age of QB transfers, Alabama's former top recruits explain why they're staying put

quote:

2010: Phillip Sims (transferred), Blake Sims (recruited as "athlete," started 2014)
2011: Phillip Ely (transferred after two years)
2012: Alec Morris (entering third year)
