I've said this 100x and I just get bashed.

Our stadium, facilities, and coaching staff mean very little to the vast majority of elite recruits.

Don't any of you find it coincidental that so many elite recruits announce their commitment on signing day? That's the day the bidding ends and allows boosters to come forward with the most money possible. It can't be more obvious.

If we aren't willing to get our hands dirty and pay the going rate to these players, then forget about it because Ole Miss, LSU, Bama etc. are willing to do whatever it takes to get a NC.

In all honesty, we offered core values, early playing time, and we negatively recruited against other coaches, implying they were leaving for the NFL. We also served really cool cookie cakes to the recruits at Sbisa hall .

America changed in the 60's and new army arrived.

Wasn't the probation for going to Junction? The horns raised a big stink about Junction not being a part of our main campus system and ended up convincing the ncaa. At least that is what I remember reading.

Ok, I don't have time to go through all the records at the moment, but it looks like it was actually his first season we were put on probation for recruiting violations. I'll try to look up more later. It's been a long time since I read much on that era.

But anyone who read Junction Boys has read about JDC's recruitment, at least one version.

The beginning of the junction boys book mentioned bear buying player.

LaGrange was not far away. Still isn't, but it's become the road less traveled.

If we had had SWAG back then we likely would not have had them.

We did not go to the Orange Bowl. The only year we were on probation was 1956. We were SWC champions that year but were prohibited from going to a bowl. Runner-up TCU went to the Cotton Bowl, where they beat Syracuse, and third-place Baylor went to the Sugar Bowl, where they beat Tennessee. A&M beat both of them during SWC play. The following year A&M, off probation, played in the Gator Bowl against Tennessee, being outscored 0-3.

Then you probably read it here.

Although we'd love to blame all things bad on t.u., they, along with most of the rest of the country, thought of the Junction trip as folly. Schools had been going off-campus for preseason camps for years, and many continue to do so, but the Junction trip wasn't the cause for any NCAA sanctions. Those were for recruiting violations under Coach Bryant.

We hadn't cancelled our Journalism degree yet?

Wasn't JDC married when he arrived on campus too?

Someone here once posted a neat story about being neighbors with them in married student housing.

They had the Chicken Ranch back in the days.
