Oh, and Sumlin needs to understand the same thing that ALL of our players need to understand.

McGee is right. It is an HONOR to play and COACH for The Fightin Texas Aggies.

I completely agree with McGee. Highway 6 runs both ways, and if you don't want to be an Ag, then carry your ass to Oregon. Love McGee, second all time favorite player after Coryatt.

What Sumlin needs to understand is that every player should be treated equally, including Hubenak. I am convinced that all this drama began when Sumlin made promises to KM. We will never know the extent of those promises but it was clear to me that Sumlin did everything he could this year to tilt the tables toward KM being the future rather than the prototypical pocket passer in KA.

Maybe Sumlin truly believes that a dual threat QB is the answer and maybe he's right, but KM has the speed but is not a college dual threat QB. There were probably 10 times this year where he slid 5-8 yards short of where he could have gotten if he wasn't so scared to take a hit (no I don't want my QB taking big hits but he was sliding when defenders were 5 yards away rather than trying to juke or run around them). A true dual threat QB also brings the QB draw into the mix on short yardage...KM does not.

And I was in Norman for the OU game in 2005 when Reggie got hurt and Mcgee came in kept us in the game, but eventually Adrian Peterson wore us down. I was also in Lincoln for the game where he carried the ball like 35 times and was puking on the sideline. Mcgee didn't have enough talent, but he gave it his all every down...wish we saw more of that in today's game.

This thread had me confused. I thought we were talking about when we were trying to recruit him. People said the same thing then and got blasted for it. Turned out those people were right.

I wish the players were reversed: Kyler left and we tried to keep Kyle. Kyler hasn't done anything for us to have enough ground to stand on to threaten leaving and us fight for him. If he had a serious reason to leave, him and daddy would have been gone. They are just on a power trip.

Totally agree. KM runs as if his priority is to protect his future $--not saying he should be challenging LBs head on. The way to look at it, we aren't getting his full potential.

Hubenak's got to be feeling pretty good right now. He suddenly may be the starter going into next season and with Spav gone and hopefully a truly competent OC to replace him, the sky is the limit for him.

McGee is absolutely right. A half heartedly committed QB cannot and should not lead a team. He needs to hit the door or rides the pine.

Furthermore, Sumlin needs to change his approach in recruiting. More important than their star count on the recruiting ticker, is their commitment star count.

I think we may have had two 5-star QBs who expected star treatment.

Regardless of his sweet tweet of appreciation toward A&M, Kyle Allen didn't care. Why else would he quit before the season ended.

Likewise, Kyler Murray is talking transfer before the end of the season. He quit too,

It's tough, but if he doesn't get his head screwed on right, Sumlin needs to wake him up early one morning and help him pack his bags.

Drop kick the half hearted and uncommitted.

I think the only thing he believes in is production and creating an offense that maximizes the strengths of whichever QB type happens to be the chosen one. His offense was pretty dang good at UofH and Keenum was not a dual threat QB. Pretty sure many comments were made during Johnny's first year that the offense was adjusted because of Johnny's skills as opposed to trying to force Johnny to operate in "their style" of offense.

Extremely naive response. Very few of these athletes have any true loyalty to any university. Most fans believe otherwise and they are sadly mistaken. A twenty year old kid has the right to admit a mistake and move on. Give me a break. If McGee means what he says then why would you recruit kids that visited numerous schools in the first place. Wow!!!

that doesn't want to be here. If there is a guy that's thinking about transferring, I'd walk him to the front door and say get out if you don't want to be here. I don't want to beg anyone to put on a maroon and white jersey. It is a privilege to put on a Texas A&M jersey. This school does not need any one player"

He states how I feel. Sort of a longer version of " Hwy. 6 runs both ways"

McGee is what I wish every player could be.

Dude would cut off limbs if A&M had asked him to. Luckily, A&M just asked him to sacrifice his future and run the spread option.

After reading some posts here i feel the need to defend Sumlin for pulling out the stops to keep Kyler in the fold last year. Losing him at that point would have been a horrible PR loss and we don't exactly have the majority of media on our side (see Texas Monthly). That put us in a terrible position. Sumlin did what he had to do then.

McGee was by no means the best QB we've had in the last 20 years but nobody doubts that dude's passion.

we won a lot of games on Johnny's pure talent but we won a lot of games on McGee's heart as well.

While I agree with McGee, I also remember him being the most vociferous defender of the mushroom cloud that was the Fran regime. Loyalty is good but at some point you have to stop digging the hole you have found yourself stuck inside.

What he is saying is true, however, you have to recruit guys with the character to stay true regardless of the current flow.

It appears that some still on (those who've left) the current Aggie team weren't recruited based, first, on their character but on high school ability and hype. That's on the guy running the program.

You want every player to be below average at his position?
Did you actually see him play?
And as far as "toughness", the guy would absolutely bail out of the pocket at the faintest whiff of pressure. So he may have been tough as nails, but the guys nerves were shot. I still have flashbacks of him running backwards and to the right to get away from non-existent pressure.
