Please correct if I am wrong, but I have been told that KISD has several high schools, and the parents/kids can choose which one they attend. If so, this arrangement is made to create sports monster type teams.

All the football studs in district at one school if so chosen by parents/kids, and the same for other sports.

Again, I was told this by parents of kids in other districts in the area, and I live in Victoria so have no direct knowledge to confirm or deny.

Is this true? If so, it is akin to recruiting.

Not true. Students go where zoned unless your parent is employed by the district, then you can choose.

Which isn't to say people don't bend the rules by "living with a relative" or whatever, but no. The rules aren't different just for Katy ISD.

Thank you for the clarification. Was told this by parents of the team they railroaded this last week/ Friendswood.

Now I know.

Who is their OC?...

Katy offense has averaged 52 points a game this year thru 13 games.
However their defense has only allowed 38 points the entire season .. Including 9 shutouts.

Good on both sides of the ball... In the same year. I like it.

Yep, it was a Friday. And the buses never actually left the school. Loaded up with the team but never rolled off. Sat there forever and then they told us to go back in the field house. Crazy day for a high schooler. I hope UIL sorts out the current issue.

I was in the band, and we were supposed to leave that afternoon. Not a fun day at all. I hope the current students don't have to go through the same dissapointment.

I was at 40-0 on the receiving end. We were pissed they were found out the week before.

And that would have been a much better game with us not on 3rd string QB in a wishbone.

So I'm just trying to understand, does the UIL rule state that if the score is lopsided enough that playing an ineligible player is acceptable? I never knew the score had any bearing on that or the number of plays. What of it was only the first play of a blowout or only one play in the 2nd quarter of a blowout.
Some of you rule experts clarify this for me.

It really is astonishing how Katy has maintained its dominance. Growing up in FBISD, I've seen first hand how hard it is to maintain a strong football program when you are constantly adding new schools to the district and redrawing the maps. Katy has been at it for decades without skipping a beat.

I don't think anything directly underhanded is going on, but there has always been rumors of people bending the rules just a bit.

It really is quite a mystery how they are able to maintain such a high level of dominance.

Good article about the uniqueness of Katy's dominant streak.

Yea that's a pretty decent representation.

I went through the program, and they basically brainwash you. When you're in the program you're willing to do anything and everything to win. Really, they start training that mentality in you all the way back in jr high. I think in the entire time I was in high school our team lost 3 games, one of which was our last game on varsity when we lost in the playoffs. We didn't have any crazy talent, I never saw anything sketchy, We just had a group of guys and a group of coaches who were completely bought in.

If they had a coach/administrator check things out beforehand, as stated, why did they feel the need to self-report???
Something about that doesn't make sense.....

Zephyr, he was in on an extra point well after the game had been decided. One extra point. Don't let the facts get in the way though.

I was at the game. If Katy had wanted to it could have been 100-0. Fact is they called the dogs off two series in to the second half. Freshmen, kids with no decals on their helmets and maybe a few band members got to play. I'm under the impression that even given the insignificance of his contribution he was eligible under UIL transfer rules. Pretty well certain Katy self reported to get out ahead of someone else having the pleasure of doing so at a later date.
The score doesn't really matter - point is... the kid should have never been on the field anyhow. If he transferred in after the regular season, he wasn't really on the team anyhow. If you want to play dress-up and stand on the sidelines, then that's ok I suppose. If I was one of the real team members, I'd be pissed that the new kid from down the road got to play and that didn't get the chance to play - even if only one play.

Not sure if this has been posted. All of this seems weird to me. It seems as long as the head coach filled out the proper PAPF forms everything would be good. We had to do that for two move ins we had this year at our HS. The form is pretty complex and covers just about everything. PAPF Form

It is well-known in Katy that the Katy Football coaches recruit and convince parents to move or enroll their star snowflakes using a relatives address. Lots of Grandma's are apparently raising grandkids in Katy.

The question was is A&M recruiting anyone from Katy and I haven't seen any Katy players mentioned on any of the services. Katy seems to be sending their best players to Oklahoma and after the Rodney Anderson debacle last year I'm not sure how much time A&M will spend at Katy.

A few thoughts:

1. From what I've heard, this is a mistake that is 100% on the adults and the kid isn't at fault at all. He was cleared to play but an adult got a rule wrong and deemed him eligible when he shouldn't have been.

2. He apparently played in 5 plays and not just the last extra point of the game but regardless, he wasn't needed to beat F'wood.

3. Gary Joseph's reputation will definitely take a hit here regardless of today's ruling. How can you play against a kid in October and then turn around and play him on your team the next month, especially when he's a kid that is a well known player and major D1 prospect? It looks extremely shady.

4. I think some adults will get reprimanded for this but ultimately, Katy will still be playing Manvel tomorrow night. We shall see...

I'm with you... seems like UIL has a very clear process in place to address this situation.

Per the ABC article, "All verification steps were taken and all proper forms were completed by the student's parent and staff during this process. It is a matter of the student's timeline of enrollment in the school that is in question and will be reviewed by the UIL State Executive Committee."

Sounds like they are reviewing the timeline only.

The hearing with the UIL State Executive Committee to review Constitution and Contest Rules is scheduled for 10:05 in Austin this morning.

Yup. It's coming down to interpretation of the 14 day rule. Sad really. With the luxury of hindsight I question why you even risk having the kid participate. One of the better parts of being a younger athlete at Katy (or in this case a transfer) is you get to experience the playoffs as a practice participant and often with playing time, even non varsity players.

This could be twice its burnt Katy. Id rather see them humiliate opponents by 100 points keeping varsity players in games than see a good program dubbed as cheaters.

the kid played on an extra point when the score was 65-0. Is that right?

If they get DQ'd for that the UIL is a sham.

They been dubbed cheaters by people outside of Katy for quite some time. This will just be another supporting fact.

What ever happened to Rodney Anderson and why didn't we land him? Wasn't he a longtime aggie commit?

how is the kid a major D1 prospect but only playing on XP's?

If Katy does get the DQ, no matter who is at fault, this kid may need to transfer to another school. I'm sure he will get picked on and bullied

Katy is rolling teams this season. They aren't going to replace an existing starter midway through the postseason, especially on their offensive line which needs everyone to play together, just because a new transfer has more potential and upside than one of their starters.

As for people picking on the kid, he's listed at 6'5" 280, so good luck with that...

Sounds to me like Katy is done based on the meeting.

Kid played 10 plays.

She admitted to not knowing the rule. She'll be run out of town by the angry red and white mob tonight.

Repeated emphasis on the rule being there for a reason and ignorance is no excuse. Although now they are admitting the language is confusing. Could be turning. The Katy rule from 98 might save Katy.

Basically. It came after one kid forged a grade on his report card in 98 (said kid was a 3rd string player who only played a few plays at the end of a 40-0 blowout the week prior) and the whole team got screwed out of the title game.

Yes. It is a sophomore OL who will be a 4* recruit. His name it out there. I don't want to post it.
