The yellow brick road is clearly a reference to Elton John who also sang "Island Girl".

The only connection we have the the islands is a picture of RC at a party with Steve Spurrier dressed in full aloha gear., wearing a HUGE hat.

It's Spurrier.

I hope it is not Brian Schottenheimer.
He wears a visor and his season is over before the SEC championship game.

I thought there was a slim chance it was Hue Jackson, but a GIS does not show a single picture wearing a visor.

Watch the tamuhighlights video. Any OC would love to have that version of Kyle Allen.

I'll add that the clues seem to point at Spurrier too.

Guys, if this is Spurrier, I think I'm going to cry.

If it's not, I think I am going to cry.

Two different cries.

Schottenheimer is a nice guess. Huge name (# of letters and/or Dad's resume) Athens, Kansas, Old time (dad) religion, Plato and Aristotle (dad) lot of the clues certainly could point to him.

OP, thanks for the consolidation on this fun topic.

Am I the only one who thinks that Rojo's visor comment might mean that the OC does NOT wear a visor?

I considered those were mutually exclusive, but don't think he intended them to be. Just a turn of phrase to make a teasing clue.

OTOH, Richt and/or Schottenheimer may be fired from Georgia this season, and that is the "writing on the wall." If Richt steps down or is fired, Schottenheimer is out of a job. If Richt stays, he'll still have some pressure to change things up and Schottenheimer as the replacement OC isn't bowling anyone over.

I wonder how different our O would look like under Spurrier, also who would be let go after the season ends, given that he can bring in anyone he wants. Also, wonder if Chavis shakes some things up as well.

This is the question I can't wait to see answered. In all the pageantry surrounding his hiring this staff was basically forced on him to make due.

quote:Its SPURRIER. Follow Aggie Rojo's clues:

1. He's HUGE: Watch the Heisman House commercial with Spurrier looking at a fogged up mirror and the word HUGE is written on it.
2. Follow the Yellow Brick Road: The yellow brick road led to the wizard. Spurrier is the wizard that has won the national championship and ushered in the spread in the SEC. He could be just meaning that only in your dream would you think we could have the Ol' Ball Coach as our OC or he may just be referring to follow Rojo's clues.
3. Aristotle and Plato: Plato was Aristotle's mentor/teacher. Sumlin has stated several times that he considered Spurrier his mentor and wants to be like him.
4. That Old Timey Religion: Spurrier is the son of a minister and the song was originally written in South Carolina.
5. "its difficult to piece the puzzle together when you are looking at the back. But, once the front is revealed, it will be a "Doh" moment for many": Again, the Heisman House commercial with Spurrier, it shows him looking into the fogged mirror that says HUGE from the back, and then you see him from the front and know its the Ol' Ball Coach.

He shot down Mangino and Shottenheimer on page 43. Spurrier also said, "First of all I'm resigning, not retiring, let's get that all straight. I doubt I'll ever be a head coach again, but maybe coach high school or something." This thread was started by Rojo 12 days after Spurrier resigned.

So I believe it is very obvious Rojo is intimating that it is Spurrier. That's HUGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Another clue from earlier...."the devil is in the details"
Duke. Blue Devils. Spurrier's first turnaround job.

Add the last clue about "visor-to-visor" and it again points to Spurrier!

Can we all just take a second and appreciate how awesome our press conferences would be if it is Spurrier?

I'm going to feel really stupid for buying into this if we end up with Spav 2.0, but I believe that Rojo believes and if it's said on Texags, well, then it has to be true.

I think see the writing on the wall may mean he's being let go by his current team... and not the Spurrier writing on the commercial... so... Les Miles reunites with Chavis? All your nattys are belong to us.

I think spurrier would be a mistake. Yes it would be huge news, but the guy really hasn't done anything in years. For whatever reason he is held on the pedistal for winning a heisman and what he did at Florida but that was eons ago. He's old too. I just don't see it benefitting us other than recruiting due to his name recognition. But as far as play on the field, I think we could do much better.

I just can't see it being spurrier. I also don't think that Rojo would be that transparent.

Do you realize how bad South Carolina was before he got there? They won 11 games from 2011-2013, that's extremely recent and extremely impressive. The last year and a half, not so much, but he's done a lot more than just win a Heisman and a natty at Florida.

I do agree with you that I don't think it's him and I would prefer it not be due to his age.

Where? To see 'The Wizard'.
There is a football coach with an extensive history as a OC who is/was known as 'The Wizard'.
Gary Crowton.
would he be considered a HUGE hire?

From Wikipedia: "Crowton is most known for his aggressive offensive style, such as the "razzle dazzle" offensive scheme utilized in Chicago (as brought to the limelight by then Kansas City Chiefs head coach Gunther Cunningham). He was nicknamed "The Wizard" by the LSU players, after completing 39 games with an accomplishment of at least 30 points within 25 games and a 2510 overall mark."

I would be all for some 'razzle dazzle' on Offense again.

Yellow Brick Road: Best known as the former KU coach

Plano & Arisotle: http://assets.espn.go.com/ncf/news/2001/1204/1289529.html

Bohl said one thing that made Mangino attractive was his background with Stoops and Snyder.

"That's like working with Aristotle and Plato," he said.

They say you can lead a horse to water.....

You are leaving out that old timey religion. Its very, very important in philosophy.

That's it. You'll have to wait until December for the new OC to be revealed. It will be HUGE.
Follow the yellow brick road (which ultimately leads back home) seems to point to KU, where Leach and Mumme invented the air raid. Could also be someone who wants to go back home to Texas.

Old Time Religion means that if you are going to run the air raid, get a coach who actually has shown that he can run the air raid.

Seems obvious that it is someone successful from the Leach/Mumme (Aristotle/Plato) coaching tree, but not Leach or Mumme. I would love Leach, but it makes no sense since he seems to have a good gig at WSU. That coaching tree limits the names somewhat.

The emphasis on "HUGE" seems to point to singly to Mangino, but I just can't see us hiring him. He just got fired from Iowa Sate and has not been consistently successful. Controversy follows him wherever he goes. HUGE could mean someone who is a well known head coach somewhere.

Dana Holgorsen would be a "huge" hire, as he seems to be well respected at WVU as far as I can tell. He could help Spav mature. However, he makes like $3m already and doesn't seem like his seat is very hot.

The other name that makes a lot of sense is Sonny Dykes. That would be a "huge" hire as well. He makes around $2m, and it is reported that he is not happy at Cal, and would be willing to take a lesser job (i.e. maybe a high paying coordinator role) if he could move back home to Texas. (writing on the wall) The other thing about Dykes is that he almost beat a 2012 Maziel led team when he was at LaTech. We know Sumlin likes to hire coaches who he has trouble beating (i.e. Chavis).

So based on what Rojo says, I am going with Sonny Dykes (and hoping it is not Mangino).

Edit: I realize there is the Spurrier connection with "HUGE" and he is a Sumlin mentor, but not sure that makes a lot of sense unless he is more of a consultant. I also have a hard time seeing him move to College Station. I love the HBC though.

According to Rojo, we will know in less than 2 weeks (before or during the SEC Championship).

What's interesting, Spurrier has not accepted South Carolina's offer to be an "advisor" & will not attend any remaining games.
