Texas A&M No. 19 in first College Football Playoff rankings

It's Week 10 and the rankings that matter are finally here.

And Texas A&M is among them.

On Tuesday evening the College Football Playoff committee released its first listing of the top 25 teams in its rankings, as seen on ESPN. Kevin Sumlin's Aggies, fresh off a win at home against South Carolina, checked in at No. 19.

The Aggies are, in all likelihood, out of the Playoff race — but at 6-2 with four games remaining, they could potentially play their way back up the list a bit. With a fair amount of chaos, they could do even more. (And we all root for chaos, don't we?)

What this really means is this: college football's glorious stretch run has officially begun.

So grab your beverage of choice, kick back and enjoy some Tuesday #MACtion while you check out the initial CFP Top 25:

Of note: Six SEC teams made the rankings, including the Aggies. No. 2 LSU and No 4. Alabama play on Saturday; following that, the Tigers host No. 18 Ole Miss and close the season in Baton Rouge against A&M. The Tide travel to No. 20 Mississippi State on November 14th and host Charleston Southern on the 21st before clashing with Auburn to end the regular season.

Speaking of Auburn, the Gus Bus Tigers will be at Kyle Field on Saturday as the Ags look to run their record to 7-2.

Okie state and tcu go at it this weekend, so one will call there. But I was shocked that Baylor only has played 7 games. Only team so far in top 25. Is this a new strategy? Only play a couple games a year and say you are undefeated?

I think by not having a conference championship game, yet scheduling "don't forget about us games" on championship weekends, the big 12 teams have an extra open date. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Just looked it up. You are right. Max number of wins the Big12 can have is 12. While any other power conference can have 13.

Combine that with half the teams being ranked in lower quarter of all FBS schools that should tell you something in regards to why the committee maybe looking at the big 12 the way it does.

Let's ignore the Big 12 for now. By what logic is Alabama ranked #4 and Florida #10?

Both have the same record of 7-1. Alabama's loss comes from #18 Ole Miss, and their best win was over us at #19. Florida's one loss came from #2 LSU, and their best win was over the same Ole Miss team that beat Alabama.

Things will shake out in the end, this is only the first ranking. But for all of the merits this new selection committee, let's not pretend it isn't just as biased as the BCS.

Probably because Bama had 3(?) turnovers in that game and they still almost won the game...
