How about the read option play calls for the pocket passing quarterback, or the play action roll out (for the pocket passer quarterback) where there is always a defender in the quarterback's face forcing him to throw without setting his feet?

The worst call this season was during the Arizona State game. Our defense created a turnover and got the ball 1st and goal from the 4 yard line. Spav proceeded to run the ball up the middle 3 times in a row gaining 2 yards and kicking a field goal. Right then and there I knew instead of winning 10 plus games we might win 8 thanks to Spav. The play calling is not bad, it is absolutely atrocious!

RB flat pass on 3rd and 8
Play Action on 3rd and 15

Every time the WR goes in motion it is a sweep play. The rest of the time they stay in position. So easy for defense to read.

My biggest problem with Spav isn't necessarily his individual play calling but his situational play calling. He has no feel for the game. I can accept a play for zero yards if I can see that it's being run to take advantage of a defensive alignment and it's just poorly executed. But spavs plays are a hodgepodge of ill advised plays out of sets for no rhyme or reason. I would be angry about it if I could wipe the WTF look off my face watching them.

4th and 1 from the shotgun, and the running play that gets blown up 2 yards behind the line scrimmage by the DE because it is too slow in developing. They need the QB under center and have the back moving toward the line on the snap. As it is now, the back has to wait for the ball to reach the QB, then take the hand off.

Situation:
4th and 1...

Shotgun - Single back set

Long snap count...

Turn-hand the ball off

Result:
Tackled for loss
Ball over on downs

Fail.Every.Single.Time

How we always pass on 2nd down, regardless of distance.

First down is ALWAYS a run up the middle.

I'm sick and tired of Spav trying to fit a square peg into a round hole. We have no run blocking for our RBs and no speed in our backfield yet he continues to try to pound up the middle AND use them for maddening the bubble screen. Because we have no run game DBs set farther back and cover up our receivers that Spav insists on sending out on either out routes to the sideline or down routes on the sideline which limits their ability to use their athleticism. The QB is forced to move laterally and cannot set due to the poor blocking, yet he expects a pocket passer to succeed in this environment. Create an offense that takes advantage of the strengths of our players and not force our players into an offense that they are not suited for.

I only have a problem with the plays that came off of an index-card. The rest seem to work just fine.

1. Screen to RSJ on the outside
2. Zone Read with Allen/Carson
3. Screen to Carson

2. 2nd down
3. 3rd down
