Myles Garrett 'top pick' hype begins two years ahead of time
What Aggies have long known has reached the masses.
That is, that Myles Garrett is pretty, pretty good.
It's not that his 11.5 sacks as a freshman, which broke Jadeveon Clowney's SEC record, didn't place him in the national consciousness. Obviously, they did.
But the hype around Texas A&M's star sophomore seems to finally be reaching the level out there that it hit on TexAgs before Garrett ever played a down.
Observe:
But not just any photo shoot.
Yes, an SI shoot with the words "top of the NFL Draft" involved.
When Sports Illustrated is pegging you as a potential top pick in a draft that's approximately 650 days away, we can assume your football talents are fairly exceptional.
Not long after it hit Twitter, ESPN's SEC blog put out a profile of Garrett and Tennessee rising sophomore Derek Barnett, who made a similar splash last season. Writer Alex Scarborough, utilizing interviews with Kevin Sumlin, Julien Obioha and Mike Matthews, delves into how good Garrett is and how good he's going to be, then does the same for Barnett.
But among the two, only Garrett receives comparisons to Clowney and 'potential top pick' status.
And the Ags get him for two more years?
Can it be September yet?
