Welcome to G Rollie White Attendance in the 80's.

Of course 6,700 Aggies can yell as a loud as 67,000 of anybody else (Bear Bryant said 10 Aggie can out yell 100 of anybody else)

You should give a crap about supporting your Aggies, no matter what the sport. I'd go watch the Aggies compete in underwater knitting if it was a sport. Get off your ass and support the Aggies you 2%er! Goes for anyone else that agrees with your dumb comment.

So #1 is Football Offense, and #2 is Football Defense?
I guess basketball at least beats special teams, at #4 .

Seems like the student section had a pretty good crowd. The other sections looked empty. Don't blame current students for sections they don't sit in.

Unfortunately, this is true...

Wrong. People don't give a crap about baseball. There are 3 pro basketball teams in Texas.

And baseball isn't even a real sport.

Top Five Reasons Mens BB Attendance sucks:

5) televised games
4) suburban Top 10% non legacy New Army considers basketball too " urban" and they have no desire to learn.
3) three years of unspeakably inept play
2) NO ONE on the athletic department gives a damn enough to even try to market or do anything different to build attendance.

And finally...
1) Billy Kennedy has the personality of a cold Slovacek sausage ( also available at your Reed Arena concession stands) , and his poor results up to this year have not been countered by any attempt on his part to build support among students or the community. Kudos to him for finally getting a stronger staff, but he is not the guy you want if you are use to big personalities like Sumlin and Blair.

Maybe winning consistently will begin to overcome the above but I don't see a lot of movement by the fence sitters to get on board the Billy Kennedy Fun Train because they essentially don't know him or trust him.

Ill get flamed for this. But Reed is just a bad atomosphere for college basketball. Watch just about any of the other programs. For sure the better programs and you see the difference. We incorporate Aggie football traditions into basketball? It just doesn't fit. When I watch other games they are constantly doing or playing something that creates energy. Ours is nothing but" A-A-A-A-A-A-A-A-A", quiet... then some Aggie yells.

That's not how you do college basketball

This is the absolute truth. Yell leaders have no place at basketball games. Let the Reed Rowdies run the show. It's hard to have a great atmosphere with those mind numbing football yells at basketball games. When you go the games you realize that the yell leaders hurt the atmosphere and flow for the audience.

Our team isn't painful to watch anymore. You guys should get out to Reed and check them out. I'm not saying we're any good...but we are improved over the past few seasons and it doesn't make your head hurt to watch us play. We're more up tempo, we typically make crisp passes and we actually dunk the ball from time to time. Oh, and Danuel (sp.?) House is a terrific player.

Granted, we have a lot of work to do to overcome the past few seasons of boring, pedestrian, really horrible basketball...but there's no doubt this team is a step or two up from what we've seen in recent history. We have two more winnable home games this year. Do yourself (and the team) a favor and go see them play.

But those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint. Isaiah 40:31 (NIV)

Agree, Football traditions work great at Kyle Field but not necessarily great for Basketball. With that said, I can tell you it used to be WAY worse. At least now we have a non-reg band and dancers. Back in my day, we had members of FTAB in uniform.

And yelling A-A-A-A-A-A-A only works when the whole place is doing it. It sounds pathetic when attendance is bad and you can only here a few folks doing it.

We could use more basketball specific traditions for sure.. but at the same time, we should get out and support our teams. They show up and so should we.. true for all sports. It's supposed to be what sets us apart from other fans.

...Because the atmosphere is terrible.. The band doesn't play anything more modern than "Deep in the Heart of Texas" or "There'll be a Hot Time in the Old Town Tonight", the Yell Leaders haven't come up with any new yells since the '50s (and HEYYYYYYYYY.... doesn't do anything but annoy people and I'm not referring to the opposing players), one entire side of the Arena is old people (professors) who sit on their hands the entire game, and the dancing girls aren't given any leeway to "pump up" the crowd. The OLD SCHOOL Aggie traditions, at football games, are great.. the FTAB, the yells, even the Corps.. but, it's time to bring the basketball atmosphere into a new era..

Ok, I agree with the above points that the atmosphere could be improved. What are y'all's suggestions then? What should we do about it? Just saying that it sucks without offering any solutions just seems silly to me. What are your thoughts? Good traditions are hard to create and sustain, that's why the yell leaders are there. I'm open to answers...

That's not even true for the FTAB, which is much more dated than Hullaballoo
Hot Time In The Old Town Tonight : 1896 (and you do realize what they play is part of the war hymn, right?)
Deep in the Heart of Texas: 1941

The newest thing I've ever heart the FTAB play is the Ballad of the Green Berets (1966).

Songs that I recognize from Hullaballoo include Sweet Caroline (1969) and September (1978) along with a bunch of other stuff that I think is from the 1970s (Aretha? Chicago?).

Now, as to whether they have anything from after current students were born...

Hullabaloo plays more recent songs, too. They've played "My Songs Know What You Did in the Dark" (the light it up song) by Fall Out Boy. It actually sounds pretty cool. I don't know if that's the answer you were looking for though.

Under achieving every year under BK will do that to a program. He has saved his job this year, the question is it a turning point for the program or just a pause in the trend?

Soccer attendance this year was awesome! We had great crowds and great support. I'm not saying we need a soccer atmosphere, but it would benefit us to make basketball unique and edgy compared to football. That's the beauty of the smaller sports. I obvously love football, but so does the majority of students. I love baseball and soccer at A&M as well because they are their own unique atmospheres that work.

You babys need to quit whining and get to the games if you can. This is the most exciting team we've had since we joined the SEC. They deserve your support.

Kelso is 100% right. I attended 40+ games at G Rollie at a time when Shelby had some pretty good teams...the game atmosphere wasn't great then and it hasn't changed much in 40 years.

I'd love to see some new things...energetic cheers (yes, I said "cheers") , noise makers, peppy music, but....

that will only change when Aggies give a damn about basketball. And that's a shame, because these kids are playing their hearts out...

I am generally old school on traditions an such but I am 100% okay with us dropping anything and everything at BB games and making it something completely different. I would even be okay with Basketball Cheerleaders.
