A&M could have had one of those "big" name RBs that OP referred to. A guy that not only was great in college, but went on to the NFL and did great things. A kid out of New Orleans that was being recruited by A&M and really wanted to go to A&M because not a lot of other big name schools were looking at him. RC Slocum, our coach at the time decided to give a scholarship to Greg Hill and not the kid from New Orleans. The kid from New Orleans was Marshall Faulk, he took a scholarship from San Diego State and the rest is history.

Best I've seen is Darren Lewis. I never saw Curtis Dickey play but he's a possibility.

Dante Hall is the best special teams player I've ever seen.

If anyone saw Curtis Dickey tear up Penn State one fall day, they'd choose him.

If anyone watched Darren Lewis's A&M career, they'd choose him.

Many good ones named so far. I'll throw in a couple that had decent college careers and went on to have decent pro careers as well.

Johnny Hector had a 9 yr pro career with the Jets and Thomas Sanders had a six year career including a Super Bowl ring with the 1985 Bears.

I think Darren Lewis was the best all-time that I saw but Keith Woodside or Curtis Dickey could have been the best if they had been the feature back in any other offense.

I go back to Emory Bellard's time.

I haven't seen anyone yet that matched the ability and results of Darren Lewis and Greg Hill. Powerful, fast, and elusive. Those two are the only Aggies to average 1000 yds/season. Rodney Thomas belongs in the discussion too as he shared carries with Hill yet he ranks 3rd in career TDs. Rodney deserves special recognition for being a special man and Aggie.

The burners, like Dickey and McElroy, had moments of greatness but aren't contenders for "best."

I'll take Cyrus Gray over Christine Michael, both for all time results and team play.

It will be a long time before we have any back that belongs in this conversation. Our offense just won't support it.

Someone once wrote "Jpel Hunt could run around in a phone booth while it was
raining in there and not get wet!"

Best RB I personally watched on Kyle Field was Leeland McElroy. And he returned
two kickoffs for tds at rice before the A&M offense ever hit the field. The kickoff return
for td running along the tu sideline was classic! I watched it over and over on video
because the look on the tu players and ol macovics faces as he sped past them
was so satisfying!!!

I remember a time when all thought Randy Simmons would make a list like this but his career was cut short by injuries. I remember the excitement he caused when we signed him.

Seems like we never really ran a "feature back" type offense, but we have always had great NFL caliber running backs as long as I followed Aggie football.

I would still give Curtis Dickey the nod as the best.

I may be a little biased as i will never forget the '79 tu game with his Tesla style zero to end zone run from about the 30 on a play intended to be a throwback to Mosley. He stopped to throw back, Mosley was covered, the sea parted in front of him and he floored it to the endzone. Ag's win 13-7. Gumbo to Tacos (sent tu to the Sun Bowl instead of Sugar Bowl).

Lewis was the best. Leeland could have been if he'd been more durable and willing to play through some of it, but his body just wasn't built that way. Tank was. Personal demons for sure, but he was the best RB in A&M history. Just go back and watch some of his highlights.

Ken Hall was elite...shame Coach Bryant made some poor decision with him...decisions he regretted in later life....He learned from his mistakes because he sure had some great players and teams...

I was also at that game. Dickey is also my choice. Funny how everyone overlooks Ernest Jackson. I know one post on the first page mentions him but that was it. Jackson probably has one of the best NFL careers of all our running backs. Multiple pro bowls for both the Steelers and the Eagles. Was overshadowed by "Dicker-James" at SMU.
