I was a student during Kevin's years. And I have always considered him the best Aggie QB until recently.
Nothing can take away the accomplishments of Kevin Murray at A&M.

Of course family comes first. And every parent wants the best for their children. And I do not blame Kevin Murray for wanting the best for Kyler. None of us know what's best for Kyler and it's really not our business other than we want A&M football to succeed and we don't want to lose to tu at anything.

I'm not concerned about A&M football as much as losing a prized legacy recruit to tu. I almost wish if Kyler wasn't coming to A&M, he should go wherever he wants except tu.

To come back to the subject of this thread, if Kyler ends up at tu, what does it do to Kevin Murray legacy?
We still love to watch 85 tu and 86 bu games on Youtube where Kevin leads the charge. You can't tell me that doesn't fire you up.

But knowing Kyler is at tu, does it taint the legacy of Kevin Murray? Or will we accept that he's great father doing the right thing for his son?

Did he win a championship ?

Then it will be the same as every other QB after 1940

Did he win a Heisman ?

Then it will be the same as every QB not named JFF

Meh.

It doesn't, just like it wasn't tarnished when Calvin decided to play baseball at tu.

I'm not sure what one has to do with the other.

In no way can a rational person hold it against a father whose son chose what he thought was the best decision for him.
I don't know Kevin Murray or Kyler but I'm sure their conversations are somewhere along the lines of " son I will love you and support your decision either way"

You do realize Kyler has family ties to Texas also

Doesn't change anything. Watched those two games too and Kevin will always be a great Ag.

Not saying it would.

But are we ready for sip rhetoric of "A&M sucks so bad that even great Aggie KM won't let his kid go there?"
who?mikejones
How long do you want to ignore this user?
serious answer- it makes his legacy better because he let his kid live his own life.

Kevin was Kevin. Gotta love what he did and he's an Aggie.

Kyler is Kyler. Have to wait and let the kid decide. The problem here is it's like asking a girl to the prom and she says yes then at the last minute goes with your best friend. It stings but you'll get over it.

We've got a good qb. Need a back up. That''s it. We'll survive either way.

tu is not the best place for km to play. His dad knows that. His dad knows the Aggie fans and how we'll treat his son. I will feel really bad for that kid if he chooses tu. I know he wants to be close to home but it's not gong to end well for him there. Although he could play baseball after one year. Who knows where this ends, but if he flips he'll go down in Aggie history and make Corey obsolete.

Can you imagine the crap he'll get if he flips and doesn't win? Not only from his friends but everyone.

I just can't imagine him turning down the opportunity to follow his father and have a chance to be a legend at his dad's legacy. But hey he has to do what makes him happy.

We'll survive guys. In September we'll be rooting for our Ags and this won't matter. Either way relax ....

The situation is similar to Archie and Peyton Manning. Archie let Peyton decide where he wanted to go and still got a lot of grief. It might have been deserved had he "pushed" Peyton towards Tennessee. As long as it's Kylers decision alone, I dont feel Kevins reputation as an aggie should be deminished.

I don't think anyone has a problem with Kevin allowing his kid to make a decision, including going to the aips. The problem many of us have is doing it this late in the process leaving A&M screwed. Especially after A&M avoided recruiting other QB's out of loyalty to Murray.

I would be shocked if Kyler chooses Texas. The OL sucks, the position players that are left suck, there is no offense, the fans boo their own team and it is in the Big 12. So what you are guaranteed the starting job. He could go to many other schools with more upside.

This is one reason why the entire 'verbal commitment' process is ridiculous. Teams and coaches have to guess on who will sign based upon verbal commitments that are non-binding. I just really wish NSD was earlier and the focus on verbal commitments was lessened.

Only problem I would have is doing this less than 2 weeks before NSD after being committed 7 months. That would be sorry.

This. I'm more of an Ag legacy than a lot of folks on this board. My grandfather, father, uncle, and sister all graduated from Texas A&M.

I choose Texas for one reason. It is a top five school in the country in my field of study, computer science. Had A&M had a top 5 CS program or had I gone with my second choice, veterinary school, I would have graduated from A&M instead of Texas.

Everyone in my family was supportive of my decision and that was awesome as an 18 year old kid. I can't imagine how bad it would have sucked if my dad or family told me I was making a dumb decision by going to Texas.

Looking back, I would make the same decision.

Two different people. Kevin Murray will always be an Aggie, and a legend at that.

I agree, the only way that it tarnishes his legacy is if he somehow forced Kyler to tu, or utterly trashes A&M in the process.

If by "best friend" you mean the ass hole down the street you grew up with that is the most annoying, obnoxious, self-absorbed, self-important, pompous, arrogant, dewsh bag, that you planned to never have to associate again with in your life, well yeah, perfect analogy.

Leather Tuscadero gets it. It's about Sumlin shutting down his recruitment of other QB's because that is what Kyler wanted when he committed. It would definitely hurt Kevin Murray's legacy as an Ag if his son screws over the future of his alma maters football program by leading them on and then pulling the rug out from under them last minute. This is exactly why I think Kyler plays football at A&M if he plays football at all.

At this point, it trashes A&M in the process whether the Murrays mean to (or care anyway).

It is not like other former players who had kids go to tu (I am think of Gary Oliver and Tank Johnson). Those kids weren't committed to begin with did not flip right before signing day after being the only player in their class at that position. The timing of it (if it happens) will not leave many Ags with warm feelings about the Murrays. And frankly, I do not blame any Ag who feels negatively towards them if that happens. The Murrays will do what they feel the need to do and it is perfectly fine if Ags feel a sense of betrayal about it. But there is much involved, so I cannot say for sure it won't happen.

Part of me really doubts Kevin Murray does this to A&M and his relationship with A&M (he has a strong one) this late in the game.
Urban Ag
How long do you want to ignore this user?
The thing is, it's not like the Murray's didn't have the expectation that he play in his true fish year back in May when he committed. He didn't wake up two weeks ago and decide that some new criteria for him to sign. Further, he had hypothetical competition from both Allen and Hill at the time whereas now only from Allen.
