The only one that looks remotely like the situation is the blind side block but if you use that then every defender in direct pursuit is defensless.

Maybe because he didn't hit him directly from the side but more from the front? It's the players job to watch where the hell he is running or in this case what he is about run into.

Guess most of yall have never played before. He is fine, decleaters like that are not the worst. Bell rung and maybe a concussion. Stop feeling sorry for the guy who is getting his college paid for to go on the field a few times a game.

Sheesh if that's the case we should just end all downfield blocking too.

How can you not? The guy slows down, sets his feet, and launches from low to high finishing at or around the kickers head/neck. How on EARTH can our players consistently get ejected for hits far less egregious that this?

I understand as well. And in real time that is almost impossible to really see the details of the collision.

But you bring up a good point that the rule is ambiguous to some point. Define 'blind side' as equates to someone trying to make a tackle. To me it's anything greater than 90 degrees of the trajectory of the player. But I could also see it being anything the player doesn't see coming. Even if it's right in front of him.

That hit wouldn't even register in the 1970s. Back then you could paralyze guys and not draw a flag. Kids today are wimps.

Understand, I don't like the fact that the powers that be are making big hits illegal. The reasons are good & bad IMO. I am just relaying what the book says. There is a judgement factor to flag /noflag.

I stated I probably would not flag it. But it COULD have been flagged based on the book as I see it.
