Some posters;
- espouse calm...all "Best/Smartest" searches take time for a "best/smartest" result,
- expectations...are confident any decision made by KDS is/will be above reproach,
- exaggerate...A&M's aura as the "ultimate/primo" destination for any worthy coach.

IMO, all of the above are a "stretch" at best and more likely, pure delusion as a result of "koolaide addiction".
My prediction...search will drag on as "Best/Smartest" coordinators stay where they are or accept positions elsewhere...meaning, the gameday performances that upset us so this year...will be with us for the forseeable future. Witnessed too much A&M football (since "Bear" coached from our sideline) to think otherwise.

And by the way...our search will drag on while other institutions (that began their "Best/Smartest" searches AFTER us) will/have hired HC's. Put that in your pipe and smoke it.

I don't think we would rush to get a DC by this weekend due to a recruits arbitrary timeline. Hopefully the recruits will appreciate the extra time needed to make an informed choice.
Exactly. Do you think A&M could force Muschamp to speed up his timetable because of a recruit we want? Assuming Muschamp has at least two fantastic offers to consider he will do what's best for him.

Instead we should tell all recruits to sit tight while we find the best DC possible. Any commitment made now is verbal anyway.
Exactly. Signing day isn't until Feb.

Anyone else finding it curious that Gibbs hasn't been announced as the new DC??

I mean, if he was one of Sumlin's choices and Muschamp, Venables, Narduzzi and Foster were all a no-go, wouldn't there be an announcement right about now?? For recruiting purposes at the very least???

Gibbs may eventually get the job, but not until KDS gets multiple additional refusals from more credible/desirable candidates and is getting embarrassed by the lack of interest in being his DC. I hope things develop differently.

Not adding up to me. When Snyder was fired, Looch said the check-books were open for Sumlin to get a top-notch DC. Reports are Muschamp to Auburn, Venables and Foster stay put. Narduzzi said no last time.

Perhaps Sumlin doesn't garner the level of respect someone in the top ten of their trade wants to work for?

That's it blame Sumlin. Or maybe coaches like normal people really don't want to up-root their families from the place their kids were raised , go to school , church , have friends and family etc. If you had a great job already you would have to think long and hard before you just grabbed up your family away from their home and friends and start over somewhere across the country! Usually in your younger years as a coach you move a lot beside you are trying to take steps up. It is tough on families. The guys we are talking about here are already DCs at very good football schools. They don't have to make their families start over for another job in another place if they don't want to. Coaches have real lives and families too. So just don't think Sumlin, A&M or whatever is the reason people say no. More than likely it is about their family that keep people where they are.

In other words, the world does not revolve around us.

One of the very few posters on here with common sense.

Tamu - Thanks! As a coach and with most of my friends and several family members who also coach I know what goes into the decision to take a new job. Coaches have to make this decision when they are early in their careers a lot. I don't understand why folks think it is easy for a coach to rip his family up from everything they know and love to move them across country for a new job. Like they don't have the same concerns etc as normal families.

I understand the concerns. My Dad was in the oil business. We moved a lot. My husband was an Air Force brat, he moved a lot. Way different time I know. Back then, where ever Dad went, the family followed. And they were often left to their own devices to pack up and move to get there.

But in this day and age, I would expect that schools paying close to or over a million a year for a coordinator position would have relocation specialists that took the candidate's family's needs into consideration and have those answered as part of the pitch. Am I incorrect in that assumption???

What? Wittiness from the staff?

Or is this from the same source that gave the world the first information about the names of the pilots on that Malaysian flight?
That is a spirit tag...

Yes. My practice hired someone living in Cleveland, and his re-location package was extraordinarily comprehensive (real estate on both ends of the move, school and sports programs registration for the kids, legal/tax assistance, temporary living allowances, chauffeured transportation, nanny, personal shopper, interior home/office designer with furnishings allowances, club membership with introductions, and more). He and his family had little to do other than leave and arrive. I would expect someone we will be paying over $1MM/year to get similar treatment.

I understand that a coach in the mature stage of his career would be reluctant to move himself and the family. However, I think someone still in the developmental stage of his career would be much more inclined to take advantage of a very good opportunity and make the move. Like any professional job, the initiative of the individual and desire to improve the lives of family members will likely determine what, if any, moves are made. Some people peak early and are satisfied with the status quo, and there is nothing wrong with that mindset. Others are driven to continuously develop themselves and strive to excel in their field. I hope we hire someone who is among the latter group.

Aggiehawg & Sharpdressed- You are correct. I am sure there are people including coaches wives from the school that are there to give answers about the best schools, neighborhoods churches, living in the area etc for the prospective coach and his wife. Sharp- Younger coaches are quick to move if the job is a step up or has a better opportunity for them to be in a bigger stage or a better chance to win. I have known guys that moved every year for several years and that is not uncommon for young coaches. I have seen High School coaches leave good paying Head coaching jobs to be a Grad Asst. in college for basically nothing so they could get started in College coaching. But sometime the family just gets tired of moving, or they love the place they are and the people they have become friends with and will not leave no matter what the offer is. Usually that is guys that already have made it though.
