If UT loses, it's "Well our entire team is young and we have a new coach. We're just reestablishing ourselves as a team. Y'all are supposed to be so good in the SEC and you only beat us XX to XX. Not that impressive"

If UT wins "HA! You guys suck! Who cares about your freshman QB who has played half a season and your awful record-setting defense. You guys constantly have the best recruits and can't even do anything with them!"

I don't trust this particular A&M team to deliver when our pride is on the line.

ut seems to be improving as the season goes on, they're solid on D and like to run the ball. I don't like this matchup.

Losing to ut would be much more damaging to recruiting momentum than losing to some random opponent.

You really want to tell me that a public execution of the whorns wouldn't be a huge deal? I want to see our program put or shut up. You want to really use the #WRTS phrase? No easier way to do than than to whip their ass in from of the whole country.

In all seriousness, it'd be a tough matchup. UT would be playing with house money as the "under dogs".... right where they'd want to be. If they won, it'd be the whole "ooh the SEC sucks and A&M will always be our little brothers etc..." and if they lose then it really wouldn't be that big a deal in the media because for whatever reason they view A&M as some powerhouse program even though we've never proven anything outside of striking some gold with Johnny.

Aggie fans would be obnoxious but honestly what I said above is true. No one thought UT would really be bowl eligible and now they might even win 8 games. They will (rightfully) be able to talk about the bright future under Strong even if they lose to A&M in a bowl game in anything but a huge blowout.
On the flipside, everyone thought A&M was legit and we were over ranked like top 7 early on in the season. To the casual sports fan, a Texas or Alamo Bowl win would be a disappointment given the initial rankings and false hype.

I stopped reading at 'revenge'.


I'm not interested in revenge and beating them at this point will be as satisfying as beating arkansas. I simply don't care about them anymore and would rather not give them any limelight as a result of playing them.... right now no one in the nation cares about them and i'd like to keep it that way.

It's nothing like that.
We have have had one 10 win season in the last 17 years and we act like we're Alabama or Florida state or something.
The last 2 years combined we have a 7-8 conference record. And we have people beating their chest ??

It's an exaggeration no doubt but we're talking about the perception of the programs over the last two years.

Look, lsu stopped playing us in the mid-90's under different circumstances (we were kicking their ass to start every year). They elected to not play us out of their own best interest - a difficult concept for some. They got called names (pretty much only by us -while we got pissed on for having to find less than appealing OOC games.....they won that one) but in the end our game with them was simply helping us more than it helped them. Beating the austin ut would be nice but, in general, F them. Let 'em try their hand at Arkansas or some other SEC opponent.

Folks. No one really cares except a few Forum posting Aggies. It would be a bowl of non ranked nobody's. TCU and Baylor are the BIG Boys in Texas. They would just laugh at the winner. You do know who would win if we played TCU or Baylor, right.

The fact some are excited at a bowl game because we beat Lamar and Rice are part of the reason A&M is content to be average at best. Florida will rise up. A&M will be average.

And how anyone, any coach any administration could field a Defense as bad as A&M has been for years is beyond belief. Just about any JUCO, Division 2 or bottom 50 Division 1 teams have better defensive teams year in and year out. Heck, just offer 11 scholarships to UTSA (San Antonio) defensive players or those they make offers to and A&M would have a better team. HOW HARD IS THAT.

We can lose (or win) to tu or any number of other Bowl opponents that finished way down in their Conference. Yea us. We are something.

Are they improving? First six games included BYU, UCLA, Baylor, and OU.

Last five included ISU, Tech, WVU, and OSU.

Has the tu defense improved or was their schedule just front-loaded with tough teams? I guess we'll see next week when they play TCU.

Sagarin has us about 4 points better, but its probably closer than that. They have improved since the start of the season, we have not.

Second, they match up well with us.

Ag strength- throwing the ball
sip strength- defending the pass

Run defense is our biggest weakness. They have an average run game and below average passing game. They also do not throw a lot of picks. So they should be able to move the ball enough to compete.

But the bigger issue is the perception. We are perceived as the up-and-coming SEC program. They are perceived as a has-been. A win in that game could reverse perceptions. Remember, perception is what drives recruiting. Reality only matters as far as it influences perception.

This is such a obvious sip PR move. The minute they get bowl eligibility they throw this out there so that when it doesn't happen we will look like the bad guy. Pretty pathetic
