I don't understand why student bonfire isn't supported more. When the bonfire tradition started it was just students with no university involvement.. So we've returned to that so why aren't more students participating? What's the problem?

This. It is especially frustrating this year because the Corps won center-pole and we don't even get to go to Burn Night because Midnight Yell is at the exact same time.

How can Midnight Yell be at 8pm? But that's exactly what is says. If true, I'll probably be late or miss it completely to go to Bonfire instead. Won't land in Austin til about 6:30 so eff it.

More students are participating...than in 2002 when Unity Project started with 200 members.

It's a different Bonfire than y'all remember. It's still a liability issue for the university, like it or not. Yell happens when it happens for the TG game. Want bonfire to be more prevalent? Make a valid case. I loved everything about bonfire but it's not the same anymore. It's well done but not recognized by the university. Unfortunate fact.

Not really sure what you mean here.

I don't think anyone involved expects it to suddenly sky rocket back to the level it was, but it is growing steadily. I think, if anything, outrage that burn and yell are at the same time is making a case that it is becoming more prevalent on campus. I wouldn't expect to see most of the northside dorms at yell that night.

Bonfire on campus was HUGE as far as turnout goes. That won't happen again in the foreseeable future since it'll be awhile (if ever) before its sanctioned by the University. Building Bonfire was always on the dorms. Namely, the all-grade, all-male dorms. It's tough to get crews out when your hall is all fish or demolished. Thankfully, its still being built and turnout has been great considering its held 45 minutes from campus. University scheduling Yell at the same time as Burn doesn't surprise me.

Bringing family for their first Aggie home game. They've never even been to Texas. Is it going to be possible to land in Austin around 6:30, make it to Yell, then catch Bonfire? Pissed that I couldn't get an earlier flight in and will have to miss part of both events

Um, it should only take about half that long. Unless you're talking about getting stuck in Burn Night traffic.

If you skip Yell and go directly to Burn, it's a 99 min drive according to Google Maps. (Take Highway 71 to 21 to OSR to Old Hearne Road.)

There are Red Pots, and anyone else who built Bonfire on campus who has taken the time to experience Bonfire now, all going back as far as you can go who would disagree with you emphatically on every count.

I spoke with the Red Pots. They are working on plans to facilitate the right decision here. Yell was initially set for 8 pm in 2012, but rescheduled for midnight with Burn set for 8 pm. I have confidence that this will be resolved in the best interest of Aggieland, and I applaud Bonfire's leadership for once again stepping up, being prepared to set an example, and square things away.

There is NO reason to have this at 8pm.By doing so, they are (1) advocating AGAINST student bonfire (2) catering to local families with children, and that's not who MYP is intended for in the first place, not to mention LSU crashers, so who cares if they can come? (3) If people are leaving town for Thanksgiving, they will be safer driving Thursday morning, than at 10pm on Wednesday, so that can't be it.. (4) You are making MYP just another Aggie joke - "What time is Aggie Midnight Yell Practice? 8pm!"
MOVE IT TO MIDNIGHT WHEN IT IS SUPPOSED TO BE You (schedulers) are all becoming wimps.

As a local family with kids it is nice to go to one yell practice a year
As a kid I enjoyed going to bonfire most years

Not sure how to properly coordinate student bonfire and the early yell practice time
The early start time and having the team at the final Yell is tradition
sorry it is inconvenient for you agjo

Most local families with kids that would go to Yell have at least one aggie in the family, are University employees or hope to have their kids be Aggies in the future

Some old Ags will go. There are about 6 midnight yells a year on campus having one at 8 is really nice for some Ags

Why not move the yell to midnight and you and other locals with kids could take the kids to bonfire at 8PM? Would be a similar experience to when you were a kid.

They already have a special kids yell practice on game day. No need to add another one the day before.

I have not been to student bonfire but the impression I have gotten it is similar to chili fest

huge traffic issues; out in boondocks, only porta potties and a lot of extreme drunkenness.
Unlike the normal drunkenness at on campus bonfire ( 151 and coke my preferred bonfire drink )

kids yell practice is lame My family attends one a year but calling that a yell practice is just stupid

It's nothing like Chilifest.

1) It is on the Brazos/Robertson County line. Are we looking at getting closer? Yes. Is it far? No. In fact, those helping Bonfire on the real estate front have suggested that given growth and long term plans for the area, our current location will be "in town" before long.
2) No alcohol. It is strictly prohibited, as is intoxication. Bonfire has taken a very hard line on alcohol being disassociated with Bonfire activities in any way. This includes Burn. Anyone caught with alcohol or intoxicated will be removed from the premises. State and local authorities are there in part for this reason.
3) Traffic in 2012 was outstanding when we fully instituted graduated admission rates. Admission is charged per vehicle (carpool) and goes from free before 4 to $10 @ 4 to $20 @ 6 (show up early). With this plan, we enjoyed efficient and effective admission and exit.
