Not sure if you were aware, but Bonfire exists today (in my opinion) in part because of Squadron 17. Personally, I looked to 17 as one of the most motivated and motivating outfits in the Corps and Bonfire at that time. A lot of us were real disappointed to have seen that change at Bonfire, but that happens everywhere. Fortunately, ebb and flow, others have done well since. I still miss 17 though.

I am a bit older than that bunch I did my bit for bonfire back in the 80's
and for a decade or so there was no SQ 17

Yeah, everyone saves the drunkenness for the huge parties afterwards

Apparently the yell website put a time out without talking to the yell leaders. There's a basketball game at 7, so no way they do midnight yell at 8. Even 10pm would be difficult. Pretty sure it will be at midnight. Can't imagine they schedule yell during a basketball game. Would also be willing to bet if they can't do early, it will be midnight. And '03: back in the day, the yell leaders were in charge of bonfire. Ask any former yell leader from old army.

Sure they were. Glad to count many of them as friends, and friends of the fire. Their input on this whole thing has been invaluable in fact.

SB is scheduled at the same time as Yell (SB put out their schedule before the University)

However,

In 2011, Yell Practice was at 8PM on Wednesday 11/23 before we played t.u.
In 2009, Yell Practice was at 8PM on Wednesday 11/25 before we played t.u.
In 2007, Yell Practice was at 8PM on Thursday 11/22 before we played t.u. (official A&M release here is a good read, by the way)
In 2005, Yell Practice was at 8PM on Wednesday 11/23 before we played t.u.
In 2003, Yell Practice was at 8PM...

I sense a pattern here...

I am all for Student Bonfire and would attend were I not living abroad; however, I believe it's apparent that the decision-makers within SB should have looked at previous years to determine the best time to light the blaze for 2014.

There is a basketball game at 7 pm that night that the yell leaders WILL be attending, so I doubt Yell Practice will be at 8 pm, I'm guessing it's likely that posted yell time is wrong and that yell will probably be at midnight.

I have so many fond memories of A&M...right at the top, bonfire.

Yes. Back in 2008, I think. TAMU paid a couple million bucks and promised to provide engineering oversight for Bonfire if it returned to campus.

I'm not sure what the "official" reason for continuing the moratorium is.
