Just found this out. I thought it was called Midnight Yell for a reason. Any reason it's at 8 and not 12 am?

Why is yell practice at 8pm wed?

Because that's when Bonfire used to start...if the stack fell before midnight, we were supposed to beat Texas. And it lets more families come.

It also allows the football team to participate. It isn't so much a problem now with a Evening game, but it would have been horrible to have the football team out there until 1 in the morning and then later play the game at 12.

At least some of the players and the head coach was at every Bonfire I attended.

If I am wearing my conspiracy theory hat, I would say having yell early on that occasion is an oblique way for the university to continue discouraging bonfire without seemingly being directly involved.
