remember back when Michigan lost to Appalachian State in the first game on the season? That was back in 2007. It was a big deal because the loss was at Michigan's home and they were #1 in the rankings.

So how can their last #1 ranking be 1997? Probably more errors on there too.

2007 was also the year where I think a record number of #1 teams losing in the ncaa season.....would be interesting to take a look back at that and see if there were any misses just from that year.

I thought A&M was ranked #1 in 1975 after we beat tu ?

Is this a consensus #1? I know it's the first for MSU in either major poll. I could have sworn I saw a game with TTU with the #1 symbol next to their name when "fat girlfriend coach" was there. Don't remember for sure though...

AP poll only...BCS hasn't been around long enough....

maybe this list is a preseason ranking??

AP is the important/legit one in my opinion. Being in the SEC, it's only a matter of time before A&M gets there. Manziels first year, I would have put that team against anyone in the entire country.

interesting that only 14 teams have been ranked number 1 in the past 12 years...

Also interesting, half of those are currently SEC teams...
