To see people outside of your normal circle?
To hit on women who aren't close friends or relatives?
To visit old haunts from our college days and marvel at what has/hasn't changed?
To let someone else do the cooking?
To see catch up with people I worked with in college who are now bar owners themselves?

Lots of reasons.

Not to mention that tailgating wasn't always as big as it is now. For some of us of a certain vintage, the bars are part of long standing game weekend routines.

Mad Hatter's is my favorite spot.

I almost died at the turtle the night I graduated. I may or may not have urinated in the Northgate garage elevator.

The Chicken is fine, but I do imagine there is a lot more at Northgate now than there was when the Chicken gained its popularity. I can't really think of anything it offers that I can't get somewhere else.

Beer? I'll go to O'Bannons and get better stuff for not much more money. If I want food with my alcohol, I'll get better food at Chimy's or The Corner for about the same price. I can even find free pool tables elsewhere on Northgate. (I'll admit the Chicken's are nicer and of higher quantity)
