How difficult would it be for them to simply add that it would also be a tribute to the fallen 12 from the bonfire collapse? Is there a reason that many Aggies, myself included, as to why that cannot be honored together

Because then they would be using their death's as a marketing tool, and that would be abhorrent. Why do you think they've distanced themselves from that thought, after everyone originally interpreted that that's what it was indeed for?

The entire point of this is to try and take back the "12th Man" from the Seahawks. This is going to be our version of raising the 12th Man flag like they do in Seattle before their games. The administration want it to be focused on every week on television so casual viewers tuning in will get the reinforcement.

Thank god they aren't associating it with the Bonfire victims. And they already have a fantastic memorial on campus... dedicating something to them at the new stadium will come across as trying to benefit from a terrible tragedy.

Well its clear now that the 12 seats are mostly a marketing/branding ploy. It would be a bit offensive to use the bonfire victims for that use. If we're going to do that we should move the seats somewhere else, not front & center for the cameras. Not to mention that we already have a bonfire memorial.

I think it was the right move to disassociate the bonfire victims from the seats. If they are just to strengthen the brand they shouldn't be a memorial or tribute or anything like that. Its a messy business to mix marketing and memorials.

Memorials are for dead people. Having 12 EMPTY seats is strongly suggestive of 12 missing students. So you labor to explain away the intent of this NOT being a memorial. It quickly becomes a confusing mess and an astounding Aggie joke. This has the support of John Sharp who has made a living off of low information voters. Politicians love drama at the expense of common sense. John hasn't yet figured out that his new constituents are highly educated and won't follow like sheep. If this idea is not canned you can thank Mr. Sharp and his stubborn pride.

Sounds like the good idea fairy came out for this one.
