You have very very little chance of talking yourself out of being a suspect. You will likely talk yourself into more suspicion. Good lawyers can generally see deeper reasoning in the completely optional questions asked by the police.
They also know how to answer questions in a way that will not return in a twisted way in a courtroom (if it gets that far). Essentially, it is the job of the enforcers (police) to get you to the judiciary (judge) regardless of your guilt or lack thereof.
