Wow! Thanks for posting those great photos.

We should really be proud of what we are accomplishing.

One thing I noticed when I drove by tonight, the color temperature of the new field lighting floodlights seems to be different than the old west side lighting. Looks much cleaner and more neutral. I wonder if it will improve the live view and the TV view.

Anyone else notice this?

Interesting but not surprising. Just looking at the pictures the lights appear like an upgrade in technology from the old field lights, which probably weren't too dissimilar from the type of light system at high school stadiums.

Somewhere on this maybe?

The sports lights are not LEDs, they are metal halide. Looks like the LED application works for indoor venues (PNC Arena in Raleigh - home of the Whalercanes is the first in the NHL), but the technology hasn't graduated to full-on LED in this size of stadium.

I don't understand why there is two rows of lights on the two outer-most sections of light and only one row in between. Why not one way or the other, all the way across?

The emittance of the center rows will overlap. The outer ones will not benefit from the overlap, so to make the edges of the area that they're supposed to cover as bright as the middle, they must have a double set of lights.

Like this:



The yellow areas are overlapped. The blue are not. The double lights will give the blue areas roughly the same illuminance as the other yellow areas.

You need that for even lighting. They're also trying to eliminate shadows as much as possible. You can see from the photos that the lights do not shine straight down towards the field.

Each "bank" of lights is set up to partially illuminate the entire field. All of them combined increase the brightness over the field and prevents a Notre Dame looking game where everyone looks like they're standing on an X

To evenly light the middle of the field, you have lights along the entire sideline contributing. But when you get to the endzones, the lights at the opposite end of the stadium really aren't doing mutch for you. So you need extra lights to make up for the difference since you don't have lights well past the backline of the endzone that are contributing to the lighting of the endzone.

Stopped by this morning. Place looks great. No doubt in my mind that they'll be done in time for Lamar. First picture is digging up the Reveilles. Also found that if you're driving up from Houston, you can easily see Kyle from the CS water tower on the way in. Also, from my best estimate, I'd say that the stars on the towers are probably at least 5 feet tall. Still not crazy about them, but that's just being nit picky.

The stars look good.

I just don't see them leaving the concrete block exposed in the south endzone. I just looks unfinished.

The Kyle Field south end looks like this in the designs. The Texags "experts" have tended to assure on threads that it cant look like this anymore.

Possibly it got axed when the east roof/box was added on the east.
