I echo a previous definition, that good bull is anything promoting or in support of Aggie spirit or tradition. The Ol' Rock stories at yell practice are examples of good-bull stories.

It was still used a lot when I was in school in 2011.. I think it's most used in aggieland, amongst fellow students, and only for particularly good Aggie moments though.

Not for a spurs game with some random jokers when Duncan makes a layup

Aggies sending truckloads of aid to tornado victims - good bull.

Ags throwing Johnny under the bus for inconsequential shenanigans - bad bull.

Simple.

I still use "bad bull" quite often, mostly in wrong context (non-Aggie related)

But I'm stuck with using "huah" from being Army ROTC. I use it so casually, it stand for "yes", "that's awesome" and "I really agree with your preferences for a more fiscally sound government".

What's ironic about this post is that nobody in the Army says hooah.

Oh, and if you say good bull or redass anywhere after Fish Camp you're a tool.

Class of 08 here...

The term will get used every now and then when I'm with some Aggie buddies of mine.

Is it not possible to love A&M and its traditions without saying "Good Bull", Tea sip, or sit down bus driver to perfect strangers or people that have no idea what it means?

I call it people skills.

Does no one here really know where the term "good bull" comes from?

A bull's worth is determined by how well it illustrates positive traits, and how effective it is at knocking up cows, which propagates a strong herd. If something is "good bull", it means it reflects positively upon A&M and helps continue tradition.

Sandman - I agree it's stupid to say the **** in mixed company, especially if you don't know what it means. What I'm questioning is how/why so many people seem to come to A&M but loathe almost every tradition - even strictly isolated to aggie company.

Honestly, I thought it came from "bull sessions." A good story, or actions that would likely lead to good stories in a future bull session were "good bull."

Bad stories or behavior that would lead to bad reception in a bull session were "bad bull."

Or something along those lines.

I've heard that connection as well, but "good bull" as it relates to agriculture has been around a lot longer.

No. It's hot or cold here. White or black. Texags is the land of extremes. You may think you love A&M but there is always a better Aggie ready to tell you how much you don't.

Don't know what world some of you live in but I absolutely love using old Aggie terms anywhere I can. And when I get that "WTF?" look from someone, I take the opportunity to enlighten them and 90% of the time they think it's pretty cool.

So to all of you who are embarrassed by it, turn in you ring and diploma and go get one from Austin you 2%ers.

When my Aggie older brother and I spread a few of our class of '43 father's ashes near the site of Mitchell Hall where he had lived. I made the comment that it was easier to ask forgiveness than it was permission.

Got a lot of "Good Bull!" responses here from those who really know what "good bull" means.

PS-my class of '99 daughter is gonna "lose" a few of mine at the 50 yard line some day.

Amazing to me how students come to A&M because of its traditions then once they are enrolled they make fun of "Old Army" and want to do away with all traditions and change everything.

It's because so many of them simply come here to ride the coat tails of those who came before them. They have no interest in being an aggie, and don't care to recognize that those traditions are A&M - and are what helped perpetuate that success. Being an aggie also comes with a responsibility to those traditions, but they don't care. I've heard many conversations of people who freely admit that they can't stand A&M, but came because they wanted a ring and access to the aggie network. The sentiment is getting more and more common.
